Bengals extend Johnson
Chad Johnson and the Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to a contract extension that will keep Johson in Cincinnati until 2011, assuming he plays the whole thing out, which he most likely won’t.
Much like the Colts did, the Bengals quickly realized they had something special going last year, so now they’re moving as quickly as they can to resign everyone and keep their offensive core in place.
If I were them, I’d consider one of the key signings to be T.J. Houshmanzadeh. The guy is really underrated, and that’s what could make him want to leave.
In other words, there’s no reason why Carson Palmer would want to leave the Bengals. He’s got a good team and a lock as the starter. They can take their time extending him. But when it comes to a player like Houshmanzadeh, he is underappreciated and underused. Guys like him are always jumping ship to teams where they can have bigger roles (think: Santana Moss)
All that aside, this spells good things for the Bengals, as it shows they’re committed to keeping their team good.
