NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Big Tuna becomes a Dolphin

by James on December 20th, 2007

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Bill ParcellsNo, this is not about some strange biogenetic experiment. This is about football in the NFL.

Bill Parcells, also known at the Big Tuna, just turned down the job to be lead of operations for the lowly Atlanta Falcons and moved on to discussions with Miami.

Bill Parcells has decided to become lead of football operations for the lowly Miami Dolphins.

On Wednesday, the Miami Dolphins and owner Wayne Huizenga apparently became the latest to employ Parcells in hopes of revitalizing the franchise, giving him a four-year deal to head the team’s football operations, according to two sources. There was no certainty on when the deal would be finalized or the timing of Parcells’ introduction during a news conference. But at 1-13, having finally put a positive number in the win column last Sunday, the Dolphins are having the worst season in the team’s 42-year history.

Huizenga, 69, has watched the team go the past six years of his 15-year tenure as owner without making the playoffs. That’s the longest stretch in team history, a once-proud tradition under Don Shula that has been eroded after years of mistake-ridden personnel decisions by the likes of Jimmy Johnson, Dave Wannstedt and Nick Saban. source

Of course, there is always the possibility that Big Tuna won’t take the job.

Parcells, who resigned in January after four years in Dallas and a 19-year career as a head coach, has a history of pulling out of deals. In 1991 and 2002, he was offered the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coaching job. After indicating he would take the job both times, he backed out at the last minute.

The Dolphins declined comment, only saying no contract has been signed, and no one at Huizenga’s business office was authorized to comment when reached Wednesday evening by The Associated Press. source

Bill Parcells knows football and has been successful everywhere he coached. Some of those stints included a large say in personnel.

Miami just may have hit the jackpot!
