Brady Quinn, in a travesty, will not start for the Browns
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Put on a Browns uniform and you may see this sight in Cleveland for a long time
Ok, the headline actually said who would start for the Browns, but it was not Brady Quinn.
The fans are ready to lynch Coach Romeo Crennel
One fan said: There is nothing like aiming for mediocrity.
Another fan remarked: this is why romeo crennell is the worst coach in football, and why the browns are always one of the worst teams. regardless of how long brady quinn missed in training camp he outplayed the guys that were there from the beginning.
Brady logged his minutes against primarily backups and was highly successful. The other competitors for the quarterback job had problems moving the team or scoring touchdowns.
While Brady Quinn held out for a new contract, Coach Romeo Crennel opened up the job of starting quarterback.
Frye, who started 13 games last year, battled in training camp to keep his job after coach Romeo Crennel turned the starting position into an open competition. After off-season workouts and minicamps, Frye entered training camp slightly behind Derek Anderson. source
The battle was very heated with this quarterback in and that quarterback out. Problem was neither qb was producing and no one cared anyway.
But Frye outperformed Anderson during preseason games and directed one touchdown drive against the Denver Broncos. Anderson produced no touchdowns when he led the offense during preseason games.
You read that right, the loser of the job, Anderson, produced a stunning 0 touchdowns. Tough to beat that, heh?
Man, they have got to get a rookie pay scale in the NFL. The two young exciting quarterbacks that came into the league both held out for more money. One of them being Brady Quinn and the other is still holding out. That would be JaMarcus Russell of the Oakland Raiders.
So you as a fan are left with neither of the young exciting prospects starting for your team, because it takes too long to hammer out a contract.
Are the players greedy? Is the league stingy?
Who gives a darn! Fans for two franchises that stink, for once, saw a bright light at the end of the tunnel and yet they are left waiting as the light is dimmed. Two franchises that were desperately trying to inject more enthusiasm into there crowds have suffered yet another setback.
This is not about winning games. Neither of these teams will make the playoffs. This is about appeasing the fans that follow the losing teams. Take it from your intrepid author, himself a Lions fan. The preseason for Lions fans was a chance to see Calvin Johnson.
We don’t kid ourselves. Calvin is a rookie and odds are he will not do a whole lot his rookie year. The point is, he is the future and we want a glimmer of that future.
So wake up Romeo! Your team is not very good. Just what are your fans supposed to hold onto?
Wake up Oakland. Get the deal done and get JaMarcus into camp and salvage what you can.
The Squibster is not happy and the NFL better look out!
Oh, by the way, Charlie Frye got the start.

give your “boy” a chance. throwing him to the wolves in week one against a heavy hitting team like the steelers would only lead to a bruised and abused sideline stay for young Quinn. starting in week two is less likely as the chances of winning and surviving against the bengals. week three you might get your wish against the other team in your article, the oakland raiders. maybe three more weeks of getting the playbook down and a chance to make the old ball coach believe he can protect Quinn where his best O-lineman is a rookie taken 19 picks before his “star” quarterback. instead of second guessing an entire franchise whose livelyhood is in this kids hands maybe you should just see how the season plays out.

The Mighty What?? The Browns and ND are about the same, but everyone else in the NFL is better than LSU!! If he plays this early he’ll get killed.
Check out this post on The Onion today. It’s pretty good.

Mike, Billy, Markj, all you say is patience. Fans don’t want patience. They want hope. What good does it do to start Frye?
Andre Ware had accuracy problems, known before the draft. Chuck did not play till 2/3rds of the season was over and Joey had Matt Millen and Marty Moron head.
