Brady Quinn stays true, while Cleveland fools around
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Brady should be doing this in a Browns uniform
The Cleveland Browns are fooling around. Anyone that has followed the Cleveland Browns in recent history not only knows that they fool around, but ought to have their head examined. At the very least, get a life and start watching some other team.
Least my opening seems too harsh, consider what Cleveland is lavishing their fans with…a quarterback battle between Charlie Frye, Derek Anderson, Ken Dorsey.
Who are those guys and what happened to Brady Quinn?
Cleveland plays games
You are catching on to the games that Cleveland is playing. Quinn is their future and they know it. Just how could they be taking any of those other quarterbacks seriously? Now last year they started Charlie Frye and could easily start him or Derek Anderson this year. There is no problem with that, because Quinn is a rookie and needs time.
During Quinn’s holdout, Browns General Manager Phil Savage said Quinn would’ve had to play twice as good as Frye and Anderson in camp to win the starting job. He reiterated this week that it’s unrealistic to think Quinn will be ready to start the season after missing 16 practices. source
Puh-lease, what are you talking about. (Actually, how hard could it be to be twice as good as those guys?)
Still, Brady needs the experience, especially after a contract holdout. Get him in there and play him. It is not like the Browns are going to show up in this years Super Bowl.
What we should be talking about is Brady Quinn vs. Jay Cutler in this week’s exhibition game, but we can’t, because Jay Cutler is a starter and Brady probably won’t come in until late in the game. The two will not even play in the same quarters, maybe not in the same halves.
Oh, Cleveland what are you doing? If ever there was an opportunity to build your fan base, this is it.
Why Brady fell in the draft
It was so strange to watch Brady fall in the draft as several teams that needed quarterbacks looked the other way.
In Quinn’s case, scouts and personnel executives picked away he might not have the upside as some of the other quarterback prospects, that he might have reached a developmental plateau. And they poked at an 0-3 record in bowl games.
Quinn joked before the draft he once heard an update about his falling draft status on a day when all he had done was run and lift weights. source
Brady Quinn Era begins
Then came the contract holdout missing 11 days and 16 practices and falling behind in his quarterback studies.
When Brady got his chance last week against the Lions he was ready and looked sharp.
Quinn put together two snappy touchdown drives in the fourth quarter to give the fans — and the coaches — a lot to talk about this week in a 23-20 exhibition loss to the Detroit Lions on Saturday night.
Yes, this was mop-up time against several players who won’t make Detroit’s roster. And, yes, the Lions played a “prevent defense” that allowed Quinn to pick up easy completions underneath their deep coverage.
But there was a discernible energy brought by Quinn. You could feel it as flashbulbs lighted Cleveland Browns Stadium like fireflies as Quinn’s career as the franchise’s hopeful savior got under way. source
So Cleveland, it is time to stop fooling around and make it clear that Brady is being prepared to be the starting quarterback at sometime this year.
NFL Football Fan Question Should Cleveland throw caution to the wind and start Brady now?
