NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Brady Quinn - will he be the mighty Quinn?

by James on April 4th, 2007

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Brady asks - Why don’t you guys like me anymore?

Brady Quinn (Media Credit: AP)The draft is not rocket science, but none the less, it is not science either.

You weigh them, you time them, and you test them.

That is not enough. You talk to everyone they may have known in their lives.

If you draft them, they will make a ton of dough and pretty much decide the future of your team.

Still, after all these years, we just don’t know. We don’t know if they will make it or not. We don’t.

Brady Quinn is a prime example. All during the season all you heard was how good he was and that whoever drafted him would be lucky.

Then the season ended and we started picking and poking.

Critics say he has not answered the bell in big games.

Brady Quinn’s detractors insist he hasn’t answered the call in Notre Dame’s biggest games. source

His coach at Notre Dame has an answer.

“They’re going to get a combination of Tommy and Peyton,” Weis told Sirius Satellite Radio. “I’ve heard from at least 20 teams that this was the closest interview they’ve had to Peyton’s (in 1998).

“The kid’s played in an NFL system. He understands the NFL game. He’s NFL ready walking in the door.”

Even A.J. Smith, the GM at San Diego, came to Brady’s defense.

“Brady Quinn has been knocked down too much in my opinion,” San Diego Chargers general manager A.J. Smith says. “The guy’s getting a bad rap, and it’s unwarranted. He’s a football junkie. He played at Notre Dame, and he had the great opportunity to be with Charlie Weis. He takes care of his body, and I have seen enough of him that I think he’ll be a fantastic pro.

Sometimes we over analyze and need to take a step back. Brady played at Notre Dame in some big time games. It is a great pedigree and has to count for something.

Of all the Notre Dame quarterbacks to make an All-America team — Terry Hanratty, Joe Theismann, John Huarte, Rick Mirer, Paul Hornung — the one Irish quarterback to have an ultra-successful NFL career didn’t make any All-America teams.
Incidentally, that quarterback, Joe Montana, is also the last Irish quarterback to leave a lasting mark on the NFL since 1970. source

The Raiders, Lions, Browns, Vikings, among others need a quarterback or will soon need a quarterback (Kitna is getting old). In fact, name the quarterbacks for those four teams? See, they need Quinn.

Will Quinn become the next Joe Montana or Peyton Manning for one of these clubs?

You just don’t know. But you won’t find out if you don’t draft him.

Draft Brady Quinn now. The draft is not rocket science, but then Brady will be quarterbacking, not piloting a rocket ship.

NFL Football Fan Question How good will Brady Quinn be in the NFL?

2 opinions for Brady Quinn - will he be the mighty Quinn?

Brady Quinn would be the smart choice if the Lions were drafting for the future….my guess is though that they will draft someone that can come in next year, start and make them better right away. My choice would be the running back Peterson. Having a stud at running back helps the team on so many levels. My gut tells me though that short of another team making them an outstanding package of draft picks to trade away the #2 pick they will take the blazing fast reciever Calvin Johnson (Matt Millen history be damned)or draft to their biggest needs on defense and take the defensive end Gaines Adams out of Clemson. Got to figure Marinelli wants a young defensive end to groom. After that it wouldn’t surprise me to see them take more defensive players in the following rounds, especially if they can get guys with speed. The Lions will be ok on offense next year with the free agents they signed and Kitna going into his second year under Martz. Time to rebuild the defense.

Oh wise sage, your guess of taking defense all over the draft sounds Marinelli correct.
Probably a good trade will get them to give up the number two pick and take Adams.
If no good trade comes along, probably Quinn.
