Brett Favre - Packers aren’t rolling and still gain no Moss
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Brett Favre - will he part ways with the Packers?
The Moss trade to New England may be the final straw.
It appears that Brett Favre wanted Moss bad enough to offer part of his salary to cover a guaranteed part of Randy Moss’s salary.
You must want someone bad, if you are giving up the cash!
The talk is that Randy was willing to rewrite his contract to fit in with the Pack.
Wow, ‘fit in’ and ‘Moss’ in the same sentence.
“He was going to wipe his contract clean and sign for $3 million guaranteed, plus a fourth-round draft pick. That would have been a steal,” Favre told the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun-Herald. “But we were not willing to guarantee part of that $3 million. I even had (Cook) call up there and tell them I would give up part of my salary to guarantee that part of the money. Apparently that wasn’t enough either.” source
Man, you gotta feel for Brett. The team has no offense beyond his personal brilliance.
“Our offense struggled last season,” Favre told Biloxi Sun-Herald reporter Al Jones, who is a close friend of the Favre family’s. “If it were not for our defense, we would not have won eight games. Right now, it’s hard to be optimistic. I’m not getting any younger, and I think everyone knows that. I don’t have five years to rebuild. No one in Green Bay is saying rebuild, but it’s hard to look at where we are going and say, ‘How can they not be rebuilding?’ source
The last two years, Favre’s QB rating has been a disastrous 70.9 and 72.7. Throw in a downturn in TD’s (20 and 18) and it would be easy to just say that Brett is getting old.
The problem with refuting that logic is that Brett is getting old.
But are the problems Brett’s or the Packers?
There are times you look out on the field and Brett has no running back and no wideouts to speak of, so just what is he supposed to do?
Oh yeah, Brett wanted Moss bad. Team him up with Donald Driver and young Mr. Jennings and you suddenly have a bona fide receiving crew!
Now Brett wonders if the Packers are even serious about getting better and maybe it is just time to move on or retire.
Favre said he has faith in the team’s desire to win, but wonders whether the Packers won’t become a contender again until after he retires. Green Bay improved from 4-12 in 2005 to 8-8 last season, but hasn’t made any major additions through free agency.
“I don’t know if I’ve lost faith, and I think everyone in the organization wants to win,” Favre told the paper. “I just don’t know if it includes me. If it’s going to be five years from now, I’m not going to be here. This is 17 years for me and I want to win.” source
In their defense, the Packers GM Ted Thompson says they only want guys of high character.
Two weeks ago, Thompson talked about the franchise’s emphasis on character when targeting players – perceived as an indirect explanation for Green Bay not finalizing a deal for Moss. However, Thompson is the same executive who last season signed wide receiver Koren Robinson after Robinson committed a DUI while under contract with the Minnesota Vikings. It was a relapse of previous drinking problems for Robinson. source
The saddest part of this whole story is how it is being played out. This is not an aging has been quarterback star athlete leaving his team to go play for a non-contender for the last couple years of his career.
You know how we all hate that!
Words like, “Wish he would have just retired when he still had it” or “He should have quit when he was on top” come out of our mouths.
No, Brett still has it, but the Packers are pathetic on offense and only average on defense.
It is sad to see such a tough competitor as Brett Favre go out this way!

When asking if it’s Brett or the Packers, don’t forget that Mike McCarthy is the guy who let Jake Delhomme out of New Orleans in favor of Aaron Brooks and we all know how that turned out.

Ouch! Who was the GM that let McCarthy influence him? or was Mike the GM at that time?

None other than Randy Mueller of the Miami Dolphins. McCarthy worked with Brooks while a coach at Green Bay and traded for him when he became O-Coordinator in New Orleans. Yuk!!!

Don’t get to see Brooks very much, because he plays for lousy teams. Know he throws a hard ball. What is his problem? Is it decisions? Accuracy? Reading defenses?

He’s dumber than a bag of hammers! In New Orleans, he once called a time out because there were only 10 men on the field, but he didn’t count himself. Jim Haslett was not pleased.
