NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Brett Favre, that is, the record setting Brett Favre

by James on October 1st, 2007

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Brett rules the record book and the North Division

Brett FavreYears from now as you talk with your grandkids, you can tell them you saw Brett Favre play in the NFL.

Most likely, they will look at you kind of funny and say, “So what, you can still see him play, grandpa”.

Yeah, at this pace, Brett will never go away.

And why should he, the Packers are 4 -0, in control of the North Division.

Brett was 32-45, 344 yds, 2 TDs as Green Bay beat Minnesota 23 -16.

And Brett? Well, Brett is in control of the football world!

Favre broke Dan Marino’s record for career touchdown passes Sunday, zipping No. 421 to Greg Jennings in the first quarter of Green Bay’s 23-16 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

He hit Jennings on a 16-yard slant for the score with 4:56 left in the quarter, and like most of his touchdown throws through his brilliant 17-year career, this one had plenty of steam on it.

“It feels great, but I’ve never considered myself as good a quarterback as Dan Marino,” Favre said. “Dan was a hero of mine. To be mentioned in the same breath as Dan and other guys really makes it special.” source

Now think about this for a moment. You make the NFL as a quarterback and you are super. You average 25 touchdowns a year and 5 more in the playoffs, giving you 30 a year. After 10 years you have 300 touchdowns.

You still have over 120 more touchdowns to go to touch Brett Favre’s record. Not to forget that 10 years is a lifetime in the NFL.

Ok, goodbye to Dan Marino’s record.

Two weeks ago it was goodbye to John Elway’s record

It’s the latest, and possibly the most hallowed record claimed by the league’s last true gunslinger. Two weeks ago, Favre broke John Elway’s mark for career victories by a quarterback when he led the Packers to a 35-13 win over the New York Giants.

Man, for Brett Favre it is just record after record.

The soon-to-be 38-year-old Favre also holds the marks for career completions and consecutive starts by a quarterback, which hit 241 Sunday, moving him past former Vikings center Mick Tingelhoff into second place on the list for all players.

Former Vikings defensive end Jim Marshall holds the all-time mark with 270 consecutive starts.

Late in the second quarter, Favre broke another Marino record when he threw the 8,359th pass of his career, and is also within shouting distance of Marino’s record for yards passing.

What would really top off his career would be one more Super Bowl victory.

Favre is the only consecutive three-time AP MVP (1995-97) in NFL history and has led the Packers to two Super Bowls: a victory against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI and a loss to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXXII. source

All Hail Brett Favre!
