Brian Urlacher - How much for the hat?
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Brian without his hat
Least we forget.
Least we decide otherwise.
Brian Urlacher with Vitaminwater hat
Least we do not want to grow up.
Least we live in denial.
The NFL is about money and marketing and not about sport and football.
This could easily turn into a major rant going from outlawing great defense in the NBA to phantom double plays in Major League Baseball to all the emphasis on marketing in the NFL, but your intrepid author will just try and keep it light and easy.
Brian Urlacher just paid 100,000 dollars for a hat.
Uhh, did he buy it at Neiman Marcus before it went on sale? Did he get lost on Rodeo drive and wanted to avoid a sun burnt dome?
Nahh, he just wore a non-NFL sponsored hat to media day during the Super Bowl.
Brian Urlacher briefly got away with living up to his endorsement deal, wearing a Vitamin Water hat and leaving a bottle of Vitamin Water with the #54 on it. Super Bowl XLI officials eventually made him remove the hat and the sports drink. When they offered him Gatorade and Aquafina water, he refused to take the items. source
The fine during the regular season is 10,000 bucks. It goes to 50,000 semolians for the Pro Bowl and a whopping 100,000 buckaroonies for the Super Bowl.
Is it a Chicago tradition? Jim McMahon, the iconic and sometimes comic quarterback of the incredible 85 Bears has pulled the same stunt with an added twist.
McMahon wore a headband that said ”adidas” in a playoff game against the New York Giants, and then-commissioner Pete Rozelle fined him $5,000 because the shoe company was not an NFL sponsor. The following week, in the NFC title game against the Los Angeles Rams, McMahon wore a headband that read ”rozelle.” source
The rant keeps trying to get out. Brian makes so much he ignored the NFL and took the fine.
No doubt he made more money from his sponsorship of vitaminwater.
No doubt vitaminwater loved all the free advertising as “Brian Urlacher” and “Vitaminwater” was printed in every paper in the country.
Wow! Get a 100,000 dollar fine and make money!
