NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Calvin Johnson - Photo evidence that he can Fly!

by James on March 15th, 2007

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

It is true, Calvin can Fly!

Calvin JohnsonThere is on player in the draft that is being compared to Superman.

His name is Clark Kent. No, wait a minute, that is Superman’s name.

His name is Calvin Johnson and… he prepped at Georgia Tech. Oh, yeah, he is a Yellow Jacket and he is a lot like Superman.

He has speed, strength, and super jumping ability.

And best of all, he runs better routes than Superman.

For a closer look at the Calvin Johnson scouting report, the usually accurate Vic Carruci at NFL.com rates the top five wide receivers:

1. Calvin Johnson, Georgia Tech (Underclassman)

Positives: Size (6-foot-5, 239 pounds) … Extraordinary hands and long arms … Tremendous concentration and focus on the ball, especially in a crowd … Consistently runs precise routes and does a nice job of setting up defenders with fakes … Strong enough to beat jams … Good footwork and agility for his size … Can withstand hard hits and hold onto the ball … Excels at delivering crack-back blocks.

Negatives: Hardly any for the player many scouts believe is the most talented of this year’s college crop … Could be more explosive, but also can rely on intelligence and strength to gain separation in man-to-man coverage. source

Number 2 is Robert Meachum from Tennessee
Number 3 is Dwayne Bowe from LSU
Number 4 is Ted Ginn Jr. from Ohio State
Number 5 is Sidney Rice from South Carolina

Who will draft Calvin

So that gets the old brain cooking. Who will take Calvin Johnson in the draft?

Will it be Oakland? No, they will take JaMarcus Russell. Their need to build with a long term quarterback is too great.

Will it be Detroit? No, Matt Millen has a history of drafting wide receivers and your intrepid author would be very happy if they took another wide receiver, especially of Calvin’s talents, but it is not going to happen. Detroit just signed a wide receiver as a free agent and also resigned Mike Furrey.

Will it be Cleveland? No, Maybe, No. Cleveland needs help at …. well, everywhere, but maybe mostly a running back, like Adrian Peterson or a QB like Brady Quinn. They have Braylon Edwards and Joe Jurevicius. They had problems with Braylon and very little production from Joe.

Will it be Tampa Bay? Yes. They picked up Jeff Garcia and have Simms returning at QB. They need a wide receiver to complement Joey Galloway.

If Tampa does not, will Arizona? No, they know they have to build the defensive side of the ball and are very committed to that.

NFL Football Fan Question Can Calvin Johnson change an NFL’s team fortunes?
