Cato June, Harper, Rhodes - exodus from the Colts
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Oh boy, 12 million bucks!
The Colts are the Super Bowl Champs. You can’t take that away from them.
Cato June is a Super Bowl Champ. He took himself away from the Colts.
Not only did Cato win the Super bowl, but he made the Pro Bowl for the first time.
Such is the nature of the NFL.
You are hot. You win. You go for the big payday!
No one is blaming them. Heck, offer me more money and…well, you all know about my loyalty and all. (Isn’t that the standard line?)
Money isn’t as important as Team and Winning, right?
Ok, this is where you get a land offer from me. Excellent swamp land.
No, Cato needs to go. There may never be time like this again.
Much like Cato, Nick Harper got a 3 year 9 mill offer from the Titans and took it.
Harper’s arrival should give the Titans some added insurance in case controversial cornerback Pacman Jones is not available to play at any point during the 2007 season. Jones is facing possible suspension by the NFL for a litany of off-field incidents that have come to light over the past several months.
“We’ve done a great deal of study and (Harper) is very productive, aggressive, hardworking,” Titans coach Jeff Fisher said recently. “(Harper has) intangibles, as a leader he has a lot of qualities that (former Indianapolis outside linebacker) David (Thornton) has and he’s very interested in doing a little bit more with his abilities than what they’ve done (with the Colts) despite the fact that they’ve done a terrific job.” source
Dominic Rhodes also left to a team where he could be top dog again.
Rhodes was the Colts’ leading rusher with 306 yards on 62 carries in their run through the playoffs. He capped his solid postseason by rushing for a game-high 113 yards in the Super Bowl.
A solid receiver out of the backfield, Rhodes sees himself as an explosive threat that can take it to the house at any time. source
Will the Colts survive the exodus of players?
Sure, but survival is not enough. When you look at the moves the Patriots are making. The Patriots being a team that barely lost to the Colts, then you have to wonder.
It is tough enough mentally to come back and win back to back Super Bowls, but to lose valuable players in the off season while your playoff rival gains players makes it even tougher.
Hey, nobody is writing off a team like the Colts, especially with Peyton Manning still throwing footballs, but maybe it is time for them to make a deal in their favor.
NFL Football Fan Question Are these just minor hiccups in the Colt machine or are they fatal blows?
As always, any NFL Football related comments are welcome.

I suspect the Colts will be okay, but we’ll see how it plays out. Now about that swamp land…

Yeah, the Colts will survive quite handily, but it appears they are losing the off season race to the Pats.
