NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Chargers Offense vs Bronco Defense, Cinderella Man would be proud

by James on November 19th, 2006

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Can LT score on the Broncos?

LaDainian TomlinsonThe Denver Broncos are 7 - 2 and 7 and 2 is a pretty darn good record, but don’t look now, the San Diego Chargers are also 7 - 2.

The Bronco’s are getting it done on the defensive side of the ball. The thing the Broncos do best is not allow the other team to score. They only allow 12.3 points per game. A NFL league low.

The Chargers have been hit with some bizarre… off field stuff that has hurt their defense. Shawn Merriman, failed steroid test. Steve Foley, shot in the leg by a police officer. Shaun Phillips, injured calf. Igor Olshansky, arthroscopic knee surgery. Terrance Kiel, shipping codeine. How this team has held it together is anyone’s guess.

Last week Carson Palmer put up 400 yards on the Chargers.

But pay no attention, because the Chargers are doing it on offense. They have the leading Fantasy Football running back by a wide margin in LaDainian Tomlinson. He has been tremendous this year. He is also the second leading rusher in the league.

Throw in Antonio Gates, one of the best tight ends in the business and Phillip Rivers, an up and coming quarterback coming off an excellent game and you have a big time game with high stakes.

Both teams are tied for the AFC West lead.

The Squibster is taking Denver, only because they are the home team. It will be interesting to see if the Bronco defense can slow down the hot offense of the Chargers.

Movie Review 1 Cinderella Man, starring Russell Crowe and Renee Zellweger. Russell plays James J. Braddock, who has to fight Max Bear, the heavy favorite for the World Title. Max has killed two fighters in the ring. Two years earlier, Braddock was a washed up fighter in a soup line. (Excellent movie. Go rent it. The Squibster has spoken.)

Movie review 2 Glory Road, starring Josh Lucas as Don Haskins, the Texas Western basketball coach that takes his all black team to the NCAA finals against the all white Kentucky team coached by the legendary Adolph Rupp played by Jon Voigt. (Excellent movie. Go rent it. The Squibster has spoken.)

One final note: It appears Troy Smith should win the Heisman voting with a strong game against UM. Troy also looks like an excellent pro prospect. Now if only my Lions can keep losing.

Don’t forget to vote in this week’s poll.

NFL Football Fan Question What did you think of the Buckeye’s victory over UM? Can San Diego beat Denver?

As always, any NFL Football related comments are welcome.

Just a quick note. My wife and MIL would second your Glory Road recommendation. My MIL was a student at Texas Western - now UTEP - that year; shared a class with one of the players as I recall. Needless to say, there wasn’t much studying done that hour…

Call me a sucker for Sports movies in general, but this one had a social point that means something to me.
For 15 years a friend of mine helped me run a basketball organization of over 100 kids and adults. We had 7 teams in the winter leagues and toured Gus Macker 3 on 3’s with multiple teams in the summer.
Most of the kids were from the bad neighborhoods. Life for them was so different.
My thing was to bring education, discipline, awareness, and fatherhood to their lives. They brought me love. It was amazing.
They were so in the moment at all times and so much happier than me, in spite of having nothing. It was just amazing.
