NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Chris Chambers to the San Diego Chargers

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Chris Chambers is reunited with Norv Turner

Chris Chambers (Jim Redman/WireImage.com)There was a trade in the NFL.

Maybe nothing as blockbusting as TO or Randy Moss, but just the same it was a trade.

Trades are fun, because you get rid of your rotten player and pick up someone else’s great player or at least that is the way it plays out in our minds.

The reality is often different and confusing to evaluate.

This one is simple; Chris Chambers was traded from the Miami Dolphins to the San Diego Chargers for a 2008 second round pick.

On paper it is a win win. San Diego just lost Eric Parker with a broken right big toe and he is out for the season. Parker was the Chargers number 1 receiver. Now they have a new number 1 receiver, Chris Chambers.

Miami wants to get some of their young studs on the field like Ted Ginn and Derek Hagan. Ginn played college ball down the road at Ohio State and destroyed my Michigan State Spartans more than once.

Chris Chambers has played for Norv Turner before and so he will be familiar with the offense. Chambers leaves quite a legacy behind.

Chambers has 31 receptions for 415 yards and no touchdowns this season. He was a second-round choice by Miami in 2001 and enjoyed his best season in 2005, when he made 82 catches for 1,118 yards and 11 scores, and was voted to the Pro Bowl.

The durable Chambers, who has missed only two games in his career, is signed through 2009.

Miami is 0 - 6 with no playoff possibilities they seem willing to begin rebuilding now.

Here is one more look at Chris Chamber’s numbers.

Chambers ranks fifth in Dolphins history with 405 receptions, good for 5,688 yards and 43 touchdowns. He has 15 100-yard receiving games, and had at least 48 catches in each of the last six seasons. In 2001, he led all rookies with 883 yards, and his 48 receptions trailed only Tomlinson (59) among first-year players.

The Chargers get a receiver. Miami gets Ted Ginn on the field and a solid pick for next year. All in all a trade is fun!

NFL Football Fan Question Don’t you wish there were more trades?

I love this pickup by the Chargers. I’ve always liked Chambers, and I’ve never understood why he hasn’t done better.

Hopefully Norv will figure out some ways to get him the ball.

Chambers will get his chance in San Diego, possibly to play in a Super Bowl. He was on my Fantasy Team for a while.
