Countdown to the Draft- This week is the AFC East
Really, it was a pretty weak year for the NFC East. Two years ago they were one of the strongest division, with the Jets and the Patriots both making the playoffs and doing something, and the Bills just missing out.
Last year they weren’t half as good. The Patriots were horrible, really, but the division was even worse, as were the Jaguars. The Jets weren’t worth much as they circulated between quarterbacks the entire season. The Dolphins are still going through rebuilding, and they weren’t even expected to compete. Their strong finish was a pleasant surprise, but make no mistake, they are a long way from competing with the likes of the Colts, the Bengals, and the Steelers.
The Bills were just hit from all angles with just about everything that could occur occuring. J.P. Losman didn’t do so well, so they put in the backup. He didn’t do so well so they put Losman back in. All in all, the effectively crushed the self-confidence of both quarterbacks. On defense they lost several key players which left them hopeless against teams with anything but horrible offenses.
So what will this division look like next year? Will the Patriots become the class of the NFL again? Will the Dolphins improve as much this year as they did last? Will Chad Pennington be his old self? What do these teams need to do to improve in this year’s draft? I’ll take a look at all of this during the coming week.
