No more orange shoes for Daunte
Daunte Culpepper has received his release from the Dolphins.
Miami released quarterback Daunte Culpepper on Tuesday, one day before a breach-of-contract grievance filed by the NFL Players Association on Culpepper’s behalf against the Dolphins was scheduled to be heard.
“As I was going through this process, I heard about a quote by Gandhi that best expresses my thoughts about this victory: ‘First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win,’ ” Culpepper, who serves as his own agent, said in an e-mail. source
The best guess is that he will end up in Jacksonville.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Once hailed as one of the top QBs in the league, Daunte now finds fans ridiculing his time in Minnesota saying it was all Randy Moss and a great offensive line.
NFL Football Duante Culpepper factoid
While on the basketball team in the state championship, the referee called traveling when Culpepper was running in the ball for the game winning lay-up. Due to this, his touchdown celebration is moving his hands in the motion that a basketball referee makes when calling traveling. The celebration is featured in Madden NFL 07 and can be seen in its television commercial where Culpepper is playing against Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson. source
So what if he does end up in Jacksonville? How will that go?
Culpepper, 30, now finds himself without a team and, in all likelihood, without a starting job even if he does land in Jacksonville. Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio has said anyone added to the roster would come in as a reserve, and he also named Leftwich his starting quarterback headed into the 2007 season. source
Geez, how bad can things be?
With Garrard also in the mix, Culpepper could find himself in a difficult competition for playing time if he does land in Jacksonville. Other teams that could have interest include the Baltimore Ravens and St. Louis Rams, and the Green Bay Packers also could put themselves into the mix. Wherever he lands, Culpepper won’t be worth more than a late-round flier.
So, Culpepper is only worth a late rounder? What if his knee heals? Couldn’t he go back to being one of the top QBs?
