Daunte Culpepper wants his freedom!
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Daunte Culpepper used to be very mobile. Will he ever be again?
No, sooner does Trent Green sign with Miami and Daunte wants out.
Miami got rid of Joey Harrington, drafted John Beck, and signed Trent Green.
Meanwhile Daunte has been slow to recover from his ailing knee.
Daunte feels he is being mistreated.
“I must say the impatience the organization displayed in both encouraging me to rush back on the field last year and then rushing me out the door this year is disappointing,” Culpepper said. “However, I understand that they have the right to make that business decision. It is now my turn to make some decisions.” source
It is still amazing the Daunte could go from having one of the greatest NFL seasons ever just a few years ago to this…
In 2004, Culpepper threw for 39 touchdowns.
Unfortunately, for Daunte, he picked the same year to throw 39 TDs as Peyton threw 49 TDs.
Does Miami have a plan here?
The Dolphins had no intentions to keep both Green and Culpepper. They re-signed backup Cleo Lemon to a one-year deal earlier this offseason, and chose Brigham Young quarterback John Beck in the second round of this year’s draft after passing on Notre Dame’s Brady Quinn with the ninth overall pick. source
We worried about Daunte’s knee and how it was encouraging Miami to look for another avenue to success. When you don’t win changes are made.
Daunte Culpepper is still rehabbing his knee.
This means the Dolphins are still rehabbing their team.
No QB in the NFL translates into no victories.
How bad are the Dolphins? No playoffs since 2001.
My how the mighty have fallen.
Miami is a team used to success. Years of Don Shula followed by years of Dan Marino have meant years and years of nothing but winning.
Now they are a struggling team looking for an identity with a new coach and a new quarterback.
Daunte is saying all the right things.
“They would like to trade me in order to ‘get something for me,’ ” Culpepper, who serves as his own agent, wrote in an e-mail. “However, it is my position that I have already been down that road and I am not interested in being traded.” source
Daunte Culpepper does not need to read the signs on the wall, he knows it is time to get out, it is time to take his freedom and his skills and play for another team!
NFL Football Fan Question Can Daunte return to the form he showed in 2004?
As always, any NFL Football related comments are welcome.
