David Carr is not Vince Young
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
David Carr stinks and Deodorant won’t help
It had to happen sooner or later. David Carr may be let go by the Houston Texans. If you are going to play quarterback with nobody blocking in front of you, then you will ultimately struggle.
David Carr was amazing in college.
It just so happens that your intrepid author watched David Carr play in one of the most exciting games of all time. It was against… Jeff Smoker and the Michigan State Spartans in the Silicon Valley bowl. David Carr had 531 yards in a 41 to 35 loss to the Spartans. source
Then he was drafted by the Texans the same… year the Lions drafted Joey Harrington. Neither of them had the benefit of a good team or adequate offensive line. Eventually both of them have felt the wrath of the crowd and the sting of losing and the cold hard feeling of landing on the ground with a 300 pound man on top of you.
This past Sunday the Texans defeated Indianapolis. It was a rare Indy loss and the Colts needed the victory to get a first round bye.
The star of the game was Ron Dayne the running back. Ron has had a less than stellar career and yet he is about all Carr has had at running back.
It sure did not help that the Texans passed on Reggie Bush. Maybe with Bush in the backfield some of the pressure could have been taken off of Carr.
It hurt even more that the Texans passed on Vince Young, now starting for Tennessee, because somehow David Carr even takes the blame for that.
In the first 6 games of the season Carr threw 9 touchdown passes. Since then David has only thrown for 2 touchdown passes, as the lack of an offensive line, decent receiver, or running back caught up to him.
Too often the quarterback is going to get all the blame when things go wrong. Ask Joey Harrington in Detroit.
They talk of replacing him with Jake Plummer, because of the connection to Texan head coach Kubiak. Hey, wasn’t Jake pretty much booed off the field in Denver and replaced by a rookie?
When you win it can be great to be a quarterback (except in Chicago where last year Kyle Orton did nothing but win and lost his job and this year Rex Grossman has won almost every game and was almost benched by his coach).
When you lose, like David Carr, expect the Vultures to start circling!
NFL Football Fan Question How can Plummer be an improvement over Carr? Doesn’t Houston need linemen first?
As always, any NFL Football related comments are welcome.
