Mike Martz is here and ready. If Marinelli wants to get off to a great start, then Martz and his play calling will be instrumental. His works with quarterback is stuff of legends. Just ask Marc Bulger (squibster full disclosure - Bulger is the backup QB on my Fantasy Team) or Kurt Warner.
One thing that has sorely been lacking in the Millen regime is an offense that actually works. An Offense that does not draw constant boos and cries of “Throw the bleepin’ ball down the field”. Most Lions fans are very familiar with that stock play of throwing the 4 yard pass on third and 9, then the coach saying the offense was designed to take what the defense gives.
Mike Martz has already found a way to use Eddie Drummond. Here is a player just oozing with talent and all he is doing is returning punts. This leads to one of the two best things about the Lions this year.

The two best things this year about the Lions are that the coaches have set up an Offense that is aggressive and a Defense that is aggressive. Your intrepid author feels the excitement is back, only for once they are building an underlying layer of stability. Marinelli is providing the stability. Either you work hard and are enthusiastic and show up to play or he asks you to leave. In the end, this has the potential to be a Tough Team that is very creative on both sides of the ball. No more taking what the defense gives and on the other side of the ball it won’t be bend but don’t break; it will be we won’t bend and we will break you!
Detroit Lions Tidbit It appears Mike Martz is still working on Mike Williams giving Mike every opportunity to come over to the Marinelli way.
At this time it often seems like a circus with all kinds of crazy stuff going on, from Charles Rogers to Joe Cullen. This is the ‘new boss is here having to weed out the old problems’ time for the Lions.

Detroit Lions Info Coach Joe Cullen, the defensive line coach was suspended for Sundays game allowing him time to go to J.C. Penny’s and buy some pants.
Now none of this is going to translate into immediate victories. Sorry, had to break the bad news to you. You see, this is rebuilding time. Wait a minute though, there is good news, once you are tough and aggressive as a team anything can happen, just ask the Bears.
Marinelli has stamped his personality on this team and Martz is a key component. It should make for an interesting season.
