Detroit Lions fans awaken to aftermath of Charles Rogers

Your especially tired author, on this extended weekend, woke up today feeling renewed with new purpose in life. Charles Rogers is gone, but my spirit is still alive! Mike Williams is also hanging by a thread and guess what? All of us tired Lions fans will survive that too.
Are we stronger than other fans? No.
Are we smarter than other fans? No.
Are we more blessed than other fans? Are you kidding?
No, the real answer is two fold… First and foremost, in the words of Drew Sharp of the Detroit Free Press, speaking about Rod Marinelli’s plan to bring back the Lions
The Lions finally are telling their long-suffering followers something they should hear instead of only what they want to hear.
They aren’t retooling. They’re rebuilding. And the first renovation must encompass the overall attitude that the coach demands — with no exceptions. source
In other words, Charles Rogers had to go, because all rebuildings start with attitude. That attitude must, let this be repeated, must come from your best players. Ask Larry Bird or Mateen Cleaves how that works. Your best players must show that they want to win by being their best and doing what is best for the team. No ifs ands or buts.
Speaking of Butts. The Detroit Lions and William Clay Ford have, for too long, only tried to do what puts Butts in the stands. Your gallivanting author has long tired of this approach. Anything that appears exciting has been done for decades, instead of anything that may lead to winning.
This time, it even hurt the pocketbook and the Detroit Lions followed through. Be proud of your Lions for once. It is still OK to wish Charles well. May he have learned a lesson and move on to great fortune and fame.
Wait a minute, there is a second reason. You said there was a second reason.
Very perceptive, maybe Lions fans are more intelligent? The second reason is very simple. Roy Williams and Corey Bradford. That is right. Ask New England if they would like to have Roy and Corey playing wide receiver?
Roy is a star in the making. Don’t get me wrong, he is not going to be the second coming of Randy Moss. There is not that incredible burst of speed that Moss possesses (wow, that is a lot of s’s). Roy has size, strength, and speed and glue like hands. He is the man. If the Lions do anything, it will be because of Roy Williams. Corey Bradford is a strong number 2 receiver with the ability to score long touchdowns and go over the middle. The two of them make for a lethal combination.
