NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Detroit Lions Fans upset over upset of Falcons

by James on November 8th, 2006

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Mike is telling Kevin about Arizona

Mike Martz & Kevin JonesNow that is no mistake in the headline. Yep, the word upset is in there twice. Lions fans are not happy. Even beating the Falcons 30 - 14 does not do it for a Lions fan.

It seems to be a perpetual state of mind. Some of my friends bet on Atlanta in my suicide league. You get to pick one team to win and if they win you are still in, but can never pick that team again. You got it, some of them picked Atlanta. Can’t win for losing.

Some of them are upset because the Detroit Lions used to be tied for the worst record in the NFL Football league. Now Arizona has that record and geez, they lost to Oakland already. You know what the worst record means? The first pick in the draft. You see, draft day is when the Lions fans are happy. New players, new hope, and no losses.

Actually the Lions may keep on winning. The schedule is favorable.

Then this story had to hit. Dennis Green is rumored to be out at Arizona. The man that would be a perfect fit? Offensive coordinator Mike Martz of the Detroit Lions. Just how much is Arizona going to take from us humble suffering Lions Fans?

NFL Football Fan Question Will the Lions continue to play great offense if Martz leaves? Would he be dumb enough to take the Arizona job?

As always, any NFL Football related comments are welcome.

5 opinions for Detroit Lions Fans upset over upset of Falcons

    James…

Yes, I believe in your Lions this week. And maybe more weeks in the future too. But I’m not sure anyone can fix Matt Millen.
Next, the Cardinals are definitely the worst team in the league. Second, they would be stupid to fire Denny Green. Third, I guess they are proving the end part of point number two.
Look, Denny Green is close to turning them around, so of course they will fire him to guarantee at least two or three more years of futility. That’s what the Bidwells do down there… they like futility. They need to draft some linemen and then they’ll improve.
As for Martz, he’s hungry. He’ll go anywhere where management can accomodate his ego. Don’t get me wrong… I like him. But he wore out his welcome in St. Louis.
And wouldn’t that just be the final insult for Kurt Warner? The guy who benched him in St. Louis comes in as head coach. That will guarantee Warner never starts again. I have nothing against Matt Leinart but he really is no better statistically at quarterback than Warner. The national media wanted him in there. Until they get a line, they should let Warner take the sacks and let Leinart learn a bit more. But I suppose they are past that point. Typical Cardinals.
See you can feel better… the Cardinals are much worse than the Lions… and have been for quite some time.
Oh, and if you want to check out my picks (yes, not great but still better than a coin flip) then cruise over to: “The Office Pool”.
    Go Lions! Beat those 49ers!

Rockwell, believe me your pain is felt by me! Bad management, Bad Owners, what is a fan to do? Hope Denny does not bear the brunt of the punishment.

The problem with the NFL is too many owners are too trigger happy. Firing a coach usually means two or three more years of pain, with few exceptions. Unless of course, you get a team that was already on the rise and the new coach doesn’t tinker… which is rare. The Saints are one example though of a new coach with the right plan. And maybe it worked out because Jim Haslett has improved the Rams’ weak D too.

Rockwell, you are so right, but you could have it worse. My Lion’s owner William Clay Ford almost always goes for the underdog. Hence we live with Wayne Fontes, Bobby Ross, Marty Moron-wig, Matt Millen, etc.
At least Dennis Green has a track record as a decent coach.

I think you have to give Bobby Ross some credit in that crew… he did have other good experiences.

Can you tell, I don’t like the Bidwells? They are the reason, as a kid, that I stopped being interested in the Cardinals (then the hometown team) and took up with the Dolphins.

But then Wayne Huizenga came along and stopped that too.
