NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Detroit Lions Jon Kitna laughs last

by James on October 29th, 2007

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Dwayne White says this victory is this big!

Dwayne White (KIRTHMON F. DOZIER/Detroit Free Press)Jon Kitna uttered the immortal words, “We will win 10″.

Asked later, Jon said, “10, yes, but you don’t want to know the number in my mind”.

Ok, just a little paraphrasing going on there, but he did predict 10 then more than 10.

We laughed. You laughed. You laughed more than me. That is a lot of laughing.

Mike Ditka did not laugh. He came out Wednesday with some good words for the Detroit Lions and the ineffable Jon Kitna.

They set a record with 34 points in the fourth quarter against the Bears, who’s supposed to be a pretty good defense. I mean, there’s a lot of things that this team has done. I like the quarterback because he’s tough, he’s gritty. I like a guy that can say, “Hey, we’re going to win 10 games.” You know if you don’t think that you’re going to win 10, chances are that you aren’t going to win 10. At least if you think you are, you have a chance to. source

Jon Kitna produced in this game spreading the ball all over the turf with passes over the middle to Calvin Johnson, slants and long balls to Roy Williams, outside deep routes to Shaun McDonald, and, as usual, some tough balls thrown to Mike Furrey.

After the game, Roy Williams reflected on the Lions record of 5 - 2.

The locker room was quiet and nearly empty, shortly after Sunday’s 16-7 victory over the Bears. Wide receiver Roy Williams wondered aloud: When was the last time the Lions were 5-2?

Two thousand, he was told.

“Two thousand years?” he joked.

It feels like that long. It feels like an eternity. But it was the Year 2000, the year before Matt Millen became team president, the last time the Lions started this well.

The Bears were expecting a Mike Martz inspired all passing offense and instead often faced Kevin Jones fully returning from his foot injury.

Jon Kitna passed for 268 yards, Kevin Jones ran for 105 yards and a touchdown, and the Lions again showed they’re serious contenders in the NFC with a 16-7 victory over the Bears on Sunday.

With the strong start, Detroit is making a bid for its first playoff appearance since 1999. The Lions have endured six straight seasons with at least 10 losses and won just three games last year, coach Rod Marinelli’s first. But things are different now. source

The defense rose up and played one of their best games with Sims practically knocking Griese out on a blitz and 4 dbs having interceptions, with 3 of them in the end zone.

All in all, a day for Coach Rod Marinelli to relish. This made a sweep of the Bears.

The schedule looks tougher down the road, but we have Jon Kitna’s assurance about victory for the Lions.
