Detroit Lions - Roy Williams thought he was gone
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Roy Williams was almost dropkicked out of Detroit

Roy Williams is the best receiver on the Detroit Lions.
Ok, settle down, the Squibster has not forgotten about Calvin Johnson. Someday Calvin Johnson may be better than Roy Williams, but right now it is Roy that has caught all the big balls.
Roy thought for sure that he was traded last year.
Did you ever seriously think you might be traded?
“From all the rumors, I thought I was out of here. Just from listening to everything. But then I listened to Coach saying I wasn’t going nowhere, so that reassured me that I wasn’t going anywhere.”
How many times did Rod Marinelli call you?
“He just called me one time in March. He said, ‘It’s done. You’re not going nowhere.’ ”

Jessica Simpson says “Roy to Dallas, oooh”

There had been rumors of going to Dallas. Can you imagine Roy Williams lining up with the Dallas Cowboys and Terrell Owens? Not even Jessica Simpson could ruin that. Tony Romo would be drooling during the game as well.
Roy is from Texas and would welcome that, but realizes he has no control over where he plays right now. He speculates that next year when he goes free agent that Detroit will slap him with the franchise tag.
Now if only the Lions would win. Maybe Roy would want to stay.
Has there been any contract talk at all?
“No.”
How will you play with that this season? Will it be a motivating factor?
“It’s not motivating. I don’t play for money, man. I play for wins. The money is there. It’s what this league is based on or whatever, but I don’t play for money. I play for wins. Growing up, I didn’t have money, so that’s not a big issue to me. I’ve always been a winner all my life. That’s all I care about.”
Roy will be in a new offense with a new coach. Calvin Johnson will be healed up and in his second year. There are still problems on the line and new players in the backfield. The emphasis will be on the run with a lot of play action passing.
It is time for Roy to shine.
