Donovan McNabb is down but not out
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Donovan McNabb - future Chicago Bear?
Now a days, we are all experts.
Admit it now, with Sport Talk, Sport gossip magazines, Sport TV shows, etc, we all think we know it all.
We don’t. You are not there and you are not them and you can not measure what is in their hearts.
How quick we are to write off one team or another or to quickly come to judgment on one player or another.
It has to stop.
Let’s take the example of Donovan McNabb. Donovan has talent, loads and loads of talent. He has been stifled year after year with injuries and has yet to take his team to Super Bowl glory.
NFL Time out for review: Right now go to Detroit Lions at Content Quake for the weekly rundown on Power Rankings.
Word out of Philadelphia is that Donovan will be gone if he does not produce this year.
Word out of Chicago is bring him on. You don’t think Chicago would not relish having Donovan in a heart beat. My Lions don’t even want to think about it.
Donovan is trying to come back from a severe knee injury. He is off to a slow start. Make that super slow.
It is frustrating and now Donovan has decided it is unfair. Unfair that he is being heavily criticized. Donovan thinks the criticism is because he is black.
In an interview on HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” to be broadcast Tuesday, McNabb said black quarterbacks “have to do a little bit extra” because there are relatively few of them, adding “people didn’t want us to play this position.”
McNabb said if he passes for 300 yards and his team wins by a touchdown, critics will say, “Oh, he could have made this throw here. We would have scored more points if he would have done this.”Asked if white quarterbacks such as Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer are held to the same standards, McNabb replied: “Let me start by saying, I love those guys. But they don’t get criticized as much as we do. They don’t.” source
Do we have a right to criticize? Of course, we do. Just be careful and think it through for yourself.
Are blacks held to a higher standard?
Let’s not kid around here. There are obviously some people that are racist. Maybe not burn the cross wear the white hood racist, but a more subtle form that is hard to deal with. We wish this wasn’t true. We wish they would wise up.
When your intrepid author was very young, which was a long time ago; there were many that believed a black quarterback was just not smart enough to be a quarterback. What a hilarious notion that seems to me now and also seemed to me back then.
My father told me that was not true. A child needs to hear these things.
If my wise father was here today, he would say that Donovan is off to a slow start and also recovering from a serious injury. Philadelphia has a great offensive line and given time, McNabb will dominate once again.
Last year, McNabb was having one of the all time great seasons before getting hurt. Did we forget that?
Thought we were experts.
Last year Carson Palmer has a slow year coming back from a serious knee injury. We gave him time.
Maybe it is time to give Donovan some time.
Besides, he is on my Fantasy Football team and it needs his help!
