Donovan McNabb - will he be ready?
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Donovan McNabb hopes to be able to scramble away from trouble
Donovan McNabb has a habit of not making it through the season. We saw it last year with a torn ACL.
Jeff Garcia stepped in and it was like he was back with the 49ers and Jeff carried Philly to the playoffs, until finally losing to the New Orleans Saints and Drew Brees.
Donovan is back and playing well in the preseason exhibition games.
In his first exhibition start, McNabb completed 6 of 9 passes for 138 yards against Carolina. He led the offense on two scoring drives and looked a lot like the quarterback who had more fantasy points than even the great Peyton Manning at the midseason point of 2006. He completed 5 of 11 passes for 60 yards in his second start, this time against the aggressive Pittsburgh Steelers, before being lifted before halftime. source
Donovan was on a tear before the tear.
McNabb was putting up MVP numbers and the Eagles seemed Super Bowl bound for sure. Then the ACL problem came up and Donovan was done.
Fantasy Football
If you plan on drafting Donovan McNabb for you Fantasy League or if you already did, then there is something you need to know. (Squibster full disclosure - Donovan willingly joined my Fantasy Football team - Naruto).
“I probably won’t be at 100 percent for about a year. But it’s steadily improving,” McNabb said. “I’m excited about my progression to where I’m at right now. I think the way that we’ve been attacking this deal, of warming it up and being able to do different things before practice has helped in so many ways, and we’re going to continue to do that. Hopefully, maybe by midseason, I can say I’m fully healthy and ready to roll.”
This sort of statement should not be a shock to fantasy owners. Even with all the medical advances we have today, it still takes at least a year for an ACL to return to somewhere around 100 percent. With that said, McNabb’s assessment that he hopes to be healthier at the midseason point makes a lot of sense.
Ouch, it could be a long time before Donovan is 100%. Still, it is not like they said he couldn’t play or anything like that.
There will always be the injury risk factor with Donovan.
Much like Portis, McNabb is the epitome of the risk-reward fantasy player. He can produce monster numbers on a consistent basis, but his proneness to injuries in recent seasons has hurt his value. In fact, McNabb would be right there with Manning among quarterbacks if he had avoided serious ailments.
Check out how Donovan will fare in the Division.
But McNabb is a tantalizing player and one of the few that can explode for huge numbers.
Last year, your gallivanting author had Carson Palmer coming off an injury year from the year before and Carson had a good year, but not a great year.
Let us hope that for your intrepid author’s sake that Donovan lights up the scoreboard!
