Analysis
The one thing that stunned me about the Lions draft was that they didn’t take Holmes. Everyone was sure they’d take another first round reciever, but no, they went for a linebacker. Ernie Sims. I thought he was an intersting prospect, but a big gamble. He’s one of those guys that shot up the boards mainly because of his workouts.
Now tell me if I’m wrong, but if it’s 4th and 7 at the end of the game, how many repitions he did on the bench press isn’t going to matter half as much as how quickly he reads the play action and can get into position to break up the pass. The workouts just don’t matter that much. They say Joe Montana never lifted a weight in his life, but he turned out ok.
The 2nd and 3rd picks were kind of disapointing, as they were players who tend to underachieve. The 2nd seemed like the type of person who came out of college early for the money, and the 3rd, Brian Calhoun has potential but needs a lot of work.
Typical mediocre Lions draft
