Dre’ Bly changes Lions draft plans
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Something going on here and your intrepid author is not smart enough to figure it out.
All the draft boards have the Lions taking Joe Thomas to play at left tackle. They would then move Jeff Backus, signed last year to a long term deal, to right tackle.
But hold on here… Not only does that scenario not make sense, but now they have traded Dre’ Bly for the Bronco’s right tackle, George Foster, and also picked up Tatum Bell, the running back.
Here is the quandary. If Foster is a right tackle and you pick Joe Thomas, where would Jeff Backus play? You would not want to alienate one of your few decent players.
If Tatum Bell is your speed back and Kevin Jones is to ultimately come back from injury, then picking Adrian Peterson, instead of Joe Thomas does make sense.
Just as a side note, did Matt Millen actually do something good here?
By the way, Matt also traded James Hall (they had a kind of falling out) for a 5th round pick. They also swapped their 6th round pick for Denver’s 5th round pick.
If my math is correct, that would give them three 5th round picks.
Without Hall at defensive end and Corey Redding moving inside, would that mean Detroit is leaning towards Gaines Adams of Clemson?
Oops, your gallivanting author just remembered that Calvin Johnson is available at wide receiver and you know how much Matt Millen loves wide receivers.
NFL Football Fan Question Could Matt Millen possibly take another wide receiver?
