NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Drew Brees will lead the Saints past the Bears!

by James on January 21st, 2007

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Drew will celebrate in Chicago!

Drew Brees (Photo by Chris Graythen/Getty Images) This is going to be a great matchup. The top offense of New Orleans against the top defense of the Chicago Bears.

This game of opposing strengths should be very entertaining to watch. Don’t forget that the Bears have a pretty good offense and the Saints have a pretty good defense. In a strange way, those things may influence the game more than their strengths.

This game is on Fox at 3 pm on Sunday being played at Soldier Field in Chicago.

The Squibster is picking the Saints to win against the Bears.

Uh oh, Mike Ditka is coming over to my house to beat my brains out. Mike is picking the Da Bears! This is what he said.

”I’m pulling and I’m rooting — as I always have every game this year — [for] the Chicago Bears,” Ditka said Thursday on WMVP-AM (1000) from his restaurant. ”Now, I thought I’d make that announcement on my show, not somebody else’s show.” source

This game represents an extension of each head coach’s philosophy.

New Orleans has the top-ranked offense in the NFL as rookie head coach Sean Payton, a former offensive coordinator and the NFL Coach of the Year, has deftly maneuvered Deuce McAllister, Reggie Bush, Marques Colston and others into positions where All-Pro quarterback Drew Brees has been able to give defenses fits.

And speaking of fits, that’s what Chicago’s defense, designed by coach Lovie Smith, formerly one of the top defensive coordinators in the NFL and the Coach of the Year in 2005, has done to offenses, ranking first in the NFC and leading the league with 44 takeaways. source

Why the Bears lose

The Bears are missing Tommie Harris on the defensive line and since he has been gone, they have not been the Bears. No Monsters of the Midway. Just Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs and the boys doing their thing. That thing is a little harder without the double teaming required on Harris.

Most fans will point to Rex Grossman and see him as the weak link, but you would never know it by his performance in beating Seattle. Rex is young and has not had a lot of NFL snaps, so he will not be Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, but he still has skills.

Why the Saints Win

The real story is how do you stop the offensive juggernaut the Sean Payton has put together in New Orleans? Coach Sean has the Saints firing on all cylinders.

Drew Brees to Colston… Touchdown!
Hand off to Deuce. He piles through the line…Touchdown!
Reggie has the screen pass. He makes a move and he is gone! Touchdown!

Chicago will have to get to Drew and throw him off his game. Then if they do that they still have to stop the running tandem of Deuce and Reggie. That just seems like a tall order!

The Chicago Bears are one game away from their first Super Bowl since 1985. They are a team of destiny and the only thing standing in their way is a team called the Saints and a forecast for snow. The official HE SAID SHE SAID prediction: Bears 24, Saints 17

    Go Bears!

Great pre-game analysis! I think it will come down to turnovers. If one team can’t hang onto the football, they could be in trouble. Certainly the Saints have a more balanced offensive attack, which also end up being the difference. That is unless they are only able to move the ball deep and have to settle for field goals. If it’s a game of field goals, like the Colts won last week, the Bears might have the advantage. But I’m not a hundred percent sure of anything. I do think it will be an exciting game.

In the last comment, I’m sorry to have left out the word “could”. It should read as follows:

Certainly the Saints have a more balanced offensive attack, which also could end up being the difference.

Your precious saints have 1 huge weakness. DREW BREES. He is nototious for turnovers in the red zone. He has the lowest red zone rating of any QB in the league. It is no suprise to me that DREW caughed the ball up 2x, threw a couple of pics, and earned a safety, all to get blown out in a must win. I am a Charger fan, I known DREW Brees is always DREW BLEW.

Thomas, you are so right on everything, except they are not my precious Saints. You will find me to be a life long Lions fan waiting to draft the next wide receiver with a major character flaw!

The big surprise to me was the Bears offense showed up, big time!
