Plaxico Burress, another one of Michigan States great NFL receivers
The Cleveland Indians win over the Boston Red Sox and there was a Monday Night Football game. On a night of playoff baseball, the Monday Night game was a dud.
That was kind of the feeling during the game.
You had Peyton Manning’s little brother playing against the perennial losing Vick-less Falcons.
The game started out as a battle, but then quickly degraded as the Falcons were unable to mount any sort of offense with Joey Harrington suffering with inaccuracy, the receivers dropping a lot of passes, and the line protection breaking down.
It was an easy victory for the Giants 31 - 10 over the Atlanta Falcons.
The game was just too easy to be the Monday Night game. Although a little bit of NFL and Giant history was set in this game. More on that later.
Playing behind a patched-up line, Joey Harrington was sacked four times, had several passes deflected at the line and did plenty of scrambling to avoid New York’s fearsome pass rush, which had tied a league record with 12 sacks of Philadelphia’s Donovan McNabb two weeks earlier. source
Another game of frustration for Joey Harrington. It is hard to say how bad Joey Harrington really is, because he continues to play for the worst team in the league. First the Detroit Lions, then the Miami Dolphins, and now the Atlanta Falcons. Maybe he ought to get a new agent.
Eli
Meanwhile, Eli was involved in his 45th start and Steve Young was saying after the game how Eli was starting to mature and that it took that many starts to recognize everything and experience all the different coverages and blitzes.
Eli hooked up with Plaxico Burress for a 43 yard pass in the second quarter that led to the 25th touchdown between the two of them tying Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison for QB/WR hookups for TDs since 2005. Anytime you tie big brother Peyton, it has to be a good thing.
Plax
The touchdown was Plaxico’s 8th td this year to tie him with Randy Moss for the NFL lead. It also meant that he was the first person to have a touchdown in each of his first 6 games since the legendary Jerry Rice in 1987. Rice went on to do it in 12 games.
Plax ended up with 6 receptions for 97 yards and 1 touchdown.
The game did keep the Giants in the hunt for the tough NFC East title with Dallas at 5 - 1 and the Giants at 4-2 and the Redskins at 3 - 2. The Falcons can start thinking of getting the number one pick, although winless Miami and St. Louis may say something about that.
NFL History
A bit of history was made as the New York Giants won their 600th game with only the Bears 672 and Packers 639 ahead of them in the all time win column.
