Favre breaks Marino’s record!
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Life is good when Brett is smiling
The great one!
Brett led the Packers to a 33 - 14 record over the St. Louis Rams. They are now 12 - 2 and face undermanned arch rival Chicago and my beloved now again losing Lions.
Even though your intrepid author is a die hard Lions fan, and as a Lions fan did happen to die hard this Sunday, there is no getting away from the wonder of Brett Favre.
Brett Favre passes to Donald Driver to break record
If you made me 9 years old all over again then hopefully my sports hero would be Brett Favre. Here is a guy that just loves football and has fun playing it at an extremely high level.
Now on the other hand, if there ever was an under appreciated god in football, it was Dan Marino. Poor Marino had to always play in the Shadow of those that believed in the Miami Dolphin win machine from early Don Shula and Larry Csonka days.
Dan’s golden arm could not deliver a title for the team that was remembered for Csonka, Kiick, and Mercury Morris. So there were those that revered him and those that did not think he was the right fit.
Brett Favre breaks passing record
But today belongs not to Dan Marino, it belongs to the aging yet brilliant Brett Favre.
Brett Favre became the NFL career leader in yards passing Sunday, overtaking Dan Marino for his latest achievement in a milestone season.
The 38-year-old Favre, a three-time NFL MVP, pulled to within 1 yard of Marino with a 44-yard touchdown pass to Greg Jennings when he caught the Rams in a blitz. That put the Green Bay Packers ahead 27-14 in the third quarter.
Favre then passed the Dolphins’ Hall of Famer on the first play of the Packers’ next series with 23 seconds gone in the fourth quarter. The game was halted as Driver hugged Favre and other teammates patted him on the shoulder pads. Public address announcer Jim Holder acknowledged the record, prompting a huge ovation, and Favre shook hands with referee Ron Winter before flipping the souvenir ball to an attendant on the sideline. source
Let’s take a look at the tail of the tape.

Wow, do the names get any bigger than this? Marino, Elway, Moon, and Tarkenton? Any student of the game will have stories to tell about all 4 of those players.
Now here was the best part of all.
Brett is smiling. He is playing for a young team with a great defense and Brett Favre knows he can win again. Brett is happy and football is fun all over again. He knows records are wonderful things, but winning is more wonderful.
The NFL Super Bowl title is most wonderful and Brett Favre wants another one!
“I say every time this happens that I’m honored,” Favre said. “I would much rather win. I’m tickled to death that I’ve had a chance to break these records and be a part of all these wonderful things.”
You see the record is nice, but the victory is sweeter right now.
It’s been a pretty big year for his team, too. The Green Bay Packers secured a first-round playoff bye for the first time since 1997. source
The Pack is back, my friend and Brett Favre is in on the title hunt.
Brett is smiling, why aren’t you?
Hey, do you think inside you, deep inside, that 9 year old is still there?

He is a true great of American football. Not only that, but he is obviously a great guy as well and a real credit to the sport.
It would be a real fairy-tale ending if the Packers went on to win the Superbowl!
Personally, I can’t see the Patriots slipping up and NOT winning it, but who knows?
