NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Giants are Super Bowl bound!

by James on January 21st, 2008

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Eli Manning led the Giants with accurate passing

Eli ManningA team of heart is a team that you can never count out.

The Giants are a team of heart.

While your intrepid author must admit that it would have been cool to have the aging Brett Favre or the seemingly ageless Brett Favre in the Super Bowl, it is also great to see a team like the Giants make the Super Bowl as well.

Why is it great?

Because once again, the Giants did it with heart. Now they will take that heart to Arizona to play in the Super Bowl.

Final Score New York Giants 23 Green Bay Packers 20.

After their kicker missed not one, but two kicks, he came back to make the game winning field goal on a 47 yarder on a cold night that made kicking the football like kicking a rock. At one point the temperature was listed at minus 4 and the wind chill at minus 24.

After Lawrence Tynes missed a 36-yard field goal at the end of regulation following a bad snap, he got a reprieve in overtime following Corey Webster’s interception of a struggling Brett Favre. He nailed a 47-yarder on his third attempt to win it, then sprinted directly to the locker room as the rest of his frozen teammates celebrated on the field.

“I screwed it up twice,” Tynes said. “Thank God we got another opportunity.” source

Makeup of the Giants

What a team these Giants are; led by a quarterback that is famous for having an older brother named Peyton and has a good day if he does not get in his own way. That would be Eli Manning, by the way, and he did not get in his own way and managed to play a great game, often showing some Tom Brady touch on the ball.

At wide receiver, they have a pair of receivers that were raked over the coals by the media as too slow and too beat up to get open on the Packers great press coverage. That would be Amani Toomer with 4 catches for 42 yards and Plaxico Burress with 11 catches for 154 yards. The 11 catches a Giants post season record.

Plax hails from my alma mater, Michigan State University. Go Spartans!

At running back the Giants have a couple of no names that just for the heck of it, we will call Jacobs and Bradshaw. Jacobs with the power and Bradshaw with the speed. Both of them managed to score a touchdown. Maybe now they will get real names!

Yes, these are the Giants a team of heart, a team you can never count out.

On defense is where the Giants can really take it too you led by a defensive star that contemplated retirement during training camp in Michael Strahan and his cohort in crime Osi Umenyiora. Both of them provided a pass rush so strong that Brett Favre was never really able to set his feet and pass with authority.

Yes, these Giants will be heading to Arizona to play yet another road game.

Road games are important to the Giants, because they have won 10 of them in a row to set a new NFL record.

So, if you bet with your heart maybe you should bet on the team that plays from the heart.

These are your New York Giants.
