Jessica Simpson says - Colts, offense, Peyton and Worf says - Bears, defense, Urlacher
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Admit my arguments are strong and highly intelligent or you will face me as a worthy adversary and be crushed
You know who will win. They don’t know who will win. Your logic is superior. Theirs is inferior. You quote Defense and Urlacher and Colts have no chance. They quote Peyton and Offense and how can you win if the Bears don’t score enough points?
Your neck veins are bulging. How can they be so dumb?
You puff up your chest and say something that was intelligent in your mind, but comes out like “You don’t know diddly-squat about football”.
Jessica says - What are you staring at with those big ridges on your forehead? You are such a dork!
With their advanced college degree, they fire back with “Weren’t you telling me earlier, that Pittsburgh would be tough again this year?”
“Yeah, well, so, err umhh uh”, your mind fumbles for a response.
It is that time of year to pull out all the clichés and catchy stats that you can. It is the Hidden Super Bowl played out at the water cooler and the local pub. So have a drink or have a snort and let’s get started.
[Bears] Defense wins championships.
Really? You say that, but… can you prove it?
[Colts] The modern day spread offenses beat good defenses.
well, you are going to force me to repeat myself. Really? Is that the extent of you argument? Prepare to go down with barely a whimper.
You need more data! Try out some of these arguments:
[Colts] Conference domination - The AFC has won 7 out of the last 9
Is it weird, in all team sports, how one conference will get on a roll and just win game after game? We tend to think that conference is automatically better, but sometimes it is just the way things go for a while.
[Bears] Least points allowed - 70% winners to the Team that gave up the least regular season points. (The Bears gave up 255, the Colts gave up 360)
Of course, the stat that never loses, the team giving up the least points in the Super Bowl will win! :)
[Colts] Most yards gained in Super Bowl - 85% winners to the Team that gained the most yards in the Super Bowl. (Colts averaged 379.4 yards per game during the season, the Bears only 324.9)
Another stat that can be skewed, because the Super Bowl magnifies things out of proportion. Teams emotions are running high and scores and yards gained can be way out of the normal range.
[Bears] Best turnover ratio in Super Bowl - 29 wins to 3 losses and 8 ties for the Team that wins the turnover battle in the Super Bowl. (Regular season Bears had a turnover ratio of 8 and Colts had a not quite as good ratio of 7)
There may be more to this turnover argument.
There have been 16 teams that had zero turnovers in the game; 14 of them won. The only two losses were Buffalo (XXV) when Scott Norwood missed a last-second field goal and when Tennessee (XXXIV) was stopped short of the goal line on the last play of the game against St. Louis. source
NFL Football Super worthless factoid:
I do think the number 427 is important to keep in mind. That’s the number of points both of these teams scored this season. Can it be more intriguing than the fact that both teams in a long 16-game schedule scored the exact number of points, or 26.68 per game? This is just too close to call, so it will come down to what you believe is the philosophy behind winning. source
NFL Football Fan Question Do you have a mindless argument backing your favorite for the Super Bowl?

Betting line has Indy favored by 6.5 points I think Chicago will win it straight up. Chicago’s defense will create enough turnovers to give their offense better field position and allow them to score enough to overcome Peyton’s arm. A high scoring shoot-out favors Indy but by putting the ball in the air more it makes them more vulerable to Chicago’s superior defense. Alas, I would love to see Peyton win it all but I think it is the year of the Bear. Chicago 31 Indy 23
