NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Jon Kitna seeks redemption

by James on September 21st, 2007

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Jon Kitna predicted 10 victories.

Later, Jon said it may be more than 10 victories.

Now he is at it again. The Detroit Lions play the Philadelphia Eagles. It is Jon Kitna vs. Donovan McNabb.

Or not. The Lions speak of team, team, team. It is not Kitna vs. McNabb. It is everyone playing their part and believing in themselves and the team.

It is the modus operandi of Coach Marinelli. You will believe in yourself.

The Movie 300
NFL Timeout for Movie Review: Just saw the movie “300″ with Gerard Butler as King Leonides and Leana Heady as the beautiful Queen. Now my favorite college team is the MSU Spartans and this movie is about 300 soldiers from Sparta holding off a million soldiers from Persia. Think Klingon here. The 300 soldiers live to die in battle and fight as a unit. Your intrepid author gives the movie 300 Three Hundred Stars. It makes me proud to be a Spartan! The fight scenes used this slo-mo fast action slo-mo technique and the whole movie looked like a dream. It was truly awesome. (Rent it now. The Squibster has spoken.)

Back to Jon Kitna

Jon tells us it is different this time around. You want to believe it, but 10 victories is a lot of winning for this winning starved team.

“This is the proof of what I’ve been telling you since the last third of last season,” said Lions quarterback Jon Kitna, who boldly predicted 10 wins for his team. “Obviously, the only things that matter are wins and losses. But when you were with this team on a daily basis last year, you started to see the culture changing and guys starting to make plays.

“Last year, we were a little outmanned. This year, we feel pretty good and things are happening. You guys are starting to see the change. We have already seen it.” source

The competition is heating up, so just what is the reaction of the players?

Now the schedule gets tougher for Detroit. Trips to Philly and Washington are sandwiched around a home game against defending NFC champion Chicago.

“The competition is internal, just to see how we react to success,” right tackle George Foster said. “If you go through the roster with anybody we’re going to play this year, man to man, is there any reason why we shouldn’t win? I don’t think so.”

Kevin Jones

As if thing were not bad enough for Philly and good enough for the Lions, Kevin Jones of the Lions may return from his foot injury to play in this game.

Jones blossomed as a receiver last year, catching 61 passes, the most in his three pro seasons. His presence would add depth and receiving ability to the backfield.

“That does nothing but boost us on offense,” quarterback Jon Kitna said of having Jones back. “It’s not like you’re adding a guy who hasn’t been in it (the offense). He helps in the passing game and the running game.

“It adds a guy who’s a pretty dynamic talent.” source

Coach Marinelli will also tell you Jones believes in himself.

It is really starting to get weird around here. What if the Lions beat the Eagles?

At what point do we start believing in Jon Kitna and the Lions?

James, it is a trap. Eagles will win easy. I just hope that in 3 weeks at the bye week they are not 2-3. I do believe that Marinelli is changing the attitude but there is still much work to do.

and much talent to add. Attitude can only do so much. Hard work can only do so much. Still, have to go with the Lions.

300 is an awesome flick — especially on the big screen. As for the football stuff, I defer to the Squibster’s expertise. My wife likes Jon Kitna because his last name sounds like “echidna.” Go figure…
