NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Joseph Addai - getting attention, but not the paying kind

by James on September 8th, 2007

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Imagine you are Joseph Addai!

Joseph Addai

You are Joseph Addai.

Wow, cool!

You go into an opening game against the New Orleans Saints. The game is at home and the stadium is filled with Colt fans whipped into a frenzy.

Wow, even cooler!

The fans begin to chant a name.

Is it Joseph Addai?

uhh, no. They are chanting Peyton, Peyton, Peyton.

Oh.

You gain 143 yards in the game, 118 rushing and 25 passing; a huge blowout victory for the Colts.

That is me. Feeling good.

Uhh, yeah, only the headings in the paper say “Peyton Manning off to a great start as Reggie Bush is contained.”

Reggie Bush? But he didn’t do anything. Check the stats; it’s me, Joseph Addai with 143 yards. One hundred and forty three yards!

Does not matter.

Reggie Bush has done 19 national television commercials since beginning his NFL career with New Orleans in 2006.

In that same span, fellow second-year running back Joseph Addai hasn’t had any.
Talk about your false advertising. source

Reggie Bush has us excited and deservedly so. Yeah, Reggie did not do a whole lot in this game, but he does do a whole lot in most games and is always a threat to break one long.

Bush and New Orleans certainly have better games ahead, especially when not having to play a defending Super Bowl champion in such an emotionally charged atmosphere. A crowd of 57,361 fans inside one of the NFL’s loudest stadiums were already drummed into a frenzy before kickoff when a giant white 2006 World Champions banner was raised to the RCA Dome roof.

Time out for an important message: Vote in the Poll to the right and all your dreams will come true. (Pedro)

So how about me, well, me as Joseph Addai?

What was that? You are so quiet it is hard to hear you.

Despite being the NFL’s leading rookie rusher last season with 1,081 yards on a championship team, Addai said he wasn’t approached with any major commercial offers this off-season. Addai’s soft-spoken nature — which he exhibited Thursday night when jokingly asking to blow off interview requests from a media throng gathered around his locker — may be one reason why Subway and shoe companies haven’t come calling like with Bush.

But take heart, because the Fantasy Footballers everywhere love you.

Addai answered any early doubts about his durability and talent after he was knocked out on the game’s first play. He returned the next series and dominated the Saints by rushing for 118 yards and one touchdown with a 5.1 average. Addai will have huge openings to scamper for great yardage as the result of defenses keying on Indy’s passing attack. He also showed his great all-around skills by catching three passes for 25 yards. source

Will Joseph Addai get his due? Better yet, will he get some endorsements?

Remains to be seen.
