Kalimba Edwards - the jokes on the Raiders
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
The headline screamed out that Oakland had bolstered their pass rush by signing none other than Kalimba Edwards of the Detroit Lions.
Your intrepid author fell out of his chair. What? They bolstered what?
Maybe they bolstered the rush to the training table, but not the pass rush.
Who are we kidding?
Edwards was cut earlier this month by the Detroit Lions. He will reportedly earn $5 million in the deal with the Raiders.
Edwards, a second-round pick out of South Carolina in 2002, has 26 sacks and 10 forced fumbles in six seasons in the NFL. His best year came in 2005, when he recorded a career-high seven sacks.

A rare photo of Kalimba Edwards tackling Brett Favre
Every year the Detroit Lions believed in the promise of Kalimba Edwards and year after year he failed to deliver. Why? No one was sure, so the next year he would get another chance.
We used to joke, as goes Kalimba, so goes the Lions. Kalimba would fail and so would the Lions.
Hey, nothing personal, hope Kalimba rips up the league, because no one should have to suffer a whole career with the Lions.
Of course to go from Detroit to the Oakland Raiders is not exactly like playing for New England or Indianapolis. Sorry Al Davis, but you have a ways to go.
