Kevin Jones is the Detroit Lions secret weapon
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Kevin Jones scores 2 TDs
It was supposed to be Atlanta running all over Detroit, but it was Kevin Jones running all over Atlanta.
Detroit 30 Atlanta 14
The line on Jones was 26 rushes for 110 yards and 2 TDs. He also added 4 receptions for 30 yards.
Jones had two standout highlights. One was a 35 yard run where Detroit actually brought in an extra tackle and ran through the right side. The other was when Jones ran right into one of the Atlanta safety’s and pancaked him with one of the loudest hits of the night.
Remember, Atlanta was the leading rushing team in the NFL. The fired up Lions held them to 165 yards, which is 35 yards below their average.
Roy signals for the 1st down
Williams also chipped in with a 60 yard TD and a great highlight.
The highlight of the game came in the fourth quarter. Kitna threw the ball behind Williams, but Williams reached back with his right arm, snared the ball as he ran, drew gasps from the crowd and gained 25 yards. Had he not been a little off-balance and not tripped over his own feet, he would have had another big touchdown. He had a 60-yard catch-and-run earlier, the longest play of his career.
“I kept motoring and opened my hand up and it just sat in there,” Williams said. “If I wore a size 13 instead of a 16, I would have scored.” source
Yeah, the man wears size 16 shoes!
NFL Football Jon Kitna factoid It was Jon’s 100th NFL game. He leads the NFL with 24 completions a game.
On Defense the Lions were swarming the ball and hitting hard. It was the most fired up the Lions have played all season.
Michael Vick demonstrated his quick feet with several fine runs. He led Atlanta in rushing with 80 yards. Vick’s passing looked good, but Atlanta had several drops, including two by the usually sure handed Alge Crumpler. Alge did come up with a touchdown pass early to keep the game close at that time.
But in the end it was too much Kevin Jones as he helped sustain drive after drive.
NFL Football Fan Question Detroit looked much better than a 2 and 6 team and did it without the 2 Shauns at defensive tackle. Are you a believer in Marinelli yet?
