LT is … well, you get the picture.
All LT did today is pass for a touchdown and run for a touchdown in a victory over the Bears.
Tomlinson threw a 17-yard TD pass to All-Pro tight end Antonio Gates with 45 seconds left in the third quarter, then scored on a 7-yard run with 9:09 left to play. source
The funny thing about this game is it is almost a disappointment for LaDainian Tomlinson.
While Tomlinson tore through Chicago’s defense in a shoe commercial that’s been airing recently, he didn’t fare nearly as well against the real Bears. He was held to 25 yards on 17 carries, the second-lowest total of his seven-year career. His longest gain of the day was 10 yards on the final play of the first half, when the Chargers ran out the clock and went into the locker room trailing 3-0.
You can not shut LT out completely though. Instead of running for yards, LT just received the ball for yards.
Tomlinson did catch seven passes for 51 yards, but the guy who saved the Chargers was Gates, who had 107 yards on nine catches.
LT is in his eighth year in the NFL and his rookie season of 1,236 yards and 10 touchdowns is his low for both yards and touchdowns.
Amazing, simply amazing.
The pass that LT threw for a touchdown was not really a surprise, if you follow the Chargers at all.
For about as long as LaDainian Tomlinson has been running the football in San Diego, he has also been passing the football. He takes the pitch, gallops to the right and finds a receiver crossing. The Chargers run this trick play so often, it is no longer a trick.
And so, late Sunday afternoon, when Tomlinson could not run and Philip Rivers could not pass and the Chargers could not score, they went back to their favorite play: Pitch to Tomlinson, gallop to the right, find a crossing receiver, celebrate in the end zone. source
LT is so good that he has one of his worst games of all time and still gets credit for 2 touchdowns. Must be nice.
