NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

LaDainian Tomlinson will prove to be too much for Patriots

by James on January 14th, 2007

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

LT points to the Heavens

LaDainian Tomlinson (AP Photo/Denis Poroy) This is a game for the ages the near dynasty, the New England Patriots vs. the young upstarts the San Diego Chargers.

If this game was in New England, you would have to pick the Pats. They are unbeatable at home in January.

But this game is not in New England and LT is not to be denied.

The New England way is to control the clock on offense as they calmly move up the field in bits and pieces. Tom Brady is the perfect quarterback to accomplish this.

The Chargers will be blitzing from the get go, with Shawn Merriman, to speed up the Patriots and get them to make mistakes. Brady has been susceptible to the blitz.

Meanwhile, LT will allow the Charger to hold on to the ball and score when they get inside the red zone.

Phillip Rivers the quarterback that we all doubted has come up big in every big game. He is especially comfortable at home.

Who will win? The Chargers in a high scoring affair.

NFL Football Fan Question Are you picking the Chargers?

Life can be brutal. Pick 3 out of 4 and all one hears about is the one he missed.

Please explain to me what the Chargers defense was thinking on that last long pass to Caldwell?

    Ha!

Actually, although I will always root for the Pats (being a Boston boy), I thought the Chargers would win. However …

The long pass to Caldwell was possible because SD’s defensive coordinator had them in a base 4-6 (safety in the box), with a single deep safety in the middle of the field. To compound this, the corners were in press coverage. So while a post route the safety can help defend, one that hugs the sideline, like what Caldwell ran, it’s 1 on 1 and the corner is at a disadvantage since he was so close to the line before the snap.

That was simply a coaching lapse on the part of San Diego, and Brady took advantage of it.

    Dead I,
thank you, knew something was wrong with that defense. When the only thing that is going to beat you is a long pass and you only have 1 safety deep, you are asking for it.

    Tris,
do you root for the sox too? Life is too easy for you.

I wonder if Schottenheimer put on the headset after the Caldwell play. What was the ‘no-headset’ thing all about? Ego?

If he REALLY didn’t need to wear one, then he wouldn’t have turned to it once the Pats came back.

Yes. BoSox too … but I root for the Canucks now instead of the Bruins.
