Larry Johnson is gone and no one is asking?
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Larry Johnson running back to camp to find his fans!
The Kansas City Chiefs stayed competitive last year on the legs of Larry Johnson. At times it even looked like they might make some noise in the playoffs, but Trent Green came back at QB and Herm Edwards gave him a start even though Damon Huard was on a roll and well, they lost.
There were problems during the season with players missing from the offensive line and Trent Green getting a severe concussion and missing a slew of games. This resulted in a low scoring average of 12 points per game, a low total yards of 200 per game, and a low passing yards of 110 per game. In spite of that, the Chiefs ended up 9 - 7 mostly because LJ could control the ground game and the clock.
Now Larry is holding out for more cash.
LJ rushed an incredible 416 times for 1789 yards.
If you owned a Fantasy Football Team and did not have LaDainian Tomlinson or Stephen Jackson, then LJ was the man to have, believe me. (Squibster full disclosure - LJ was my prime runner on my Fantasy Football team)
Now Johnson is nowhere to be seen and nobody is asking why or where or when? What gives?
The players really didn’t seem to care much, probably figuring he’d be back at some point. But unlike the Michael Strahan absence, which I get questioned about wherever I go (including calls from people on his own team wondering if he’s coming back or not), nobody really seemed to care one way or the other about Johnson. Maybe a question here and there if I had heard anything on the latest but it really seemed to be the furthest thing from the team’s mind during my two days.
Again, it could be because they figure he’ll eventually show or it could be because they think Priest Holmes and Michael Bennett can carry the load. As for Holmes, he hasn’t done much of anything aside from work out on the side in hopes of getting his body back in football shape. source
If LJ does not come back, the Chiefs are in a world of hurt. There are some that think Larry does not have the legs to do it again, but he better get the legs.
There are others critical of Larry as well and seem to think that is holding up the signing process.
Personally, I think Johnson is a bona fide star in this league but the team is in a predicament. Do they pay LT-type money for a player who doesn’t like to block and catch the way Tomlinson busts his butt in all three phases of the game? Also, Johnson marches to the beat of his own drummer, whereas Tomlinson is clearly a friend to his entire locker room. source
Such is life as a sports star where all of us amateur analysts or sports talk heroes can offer up our expert opinions on the problems with a runner that gained over 1,700 yards. You don’t think there would be a lot of takers for LJ’s services?
Larry Johnson needs to sign and get into camp and start earning that fan love back.
NFL Football Fan Question Would you take LJ on your team?
