NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

Los Angeles Bills?

by on May 3rd, 2006

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger pitched two teams in the Los Angeles area to NFL officials. Lofty dreams, I guess, considering the L.A. market once was the home of the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Raiders - both simultaneously, and neither well supported.

It is common knowledge that the NFL would like to get one team back to L.A. It is the second largest television market in the nation. But unlikely two, in my opinion. But then again, the definition of insanity is to go through the same motions repeatedly with expectations of a different result.

Teams that have been floated as possible relocation fodder are the New Orleans Saints (likely, I think), the San Diego Chargers and…. wait for it… the Buffalo Bills.

Yes, the storied franchise from Western New York that boasts such historical notables such as O.J. Simpson, Thurman Thomas and 4 consecutive Super Bowl losses might need to rewrite some history… Or just write some new history.

Yeah… I mean, what else would you do with a venue called “Ralph Wilson Stadium” in Buffalo?

turn it into a temple? that’s a good question.

OTOH, you could just rename it

Hmmm… anybody considered that perhaps the aging Ralph Wilson, whose daughters are not interested in running the team after he goes, may agree to sell it to a consortium of investors who might include guys like Tom Gollisano (Sabers owner) and Tim Russert? Those guys want to keep the team in Western New York, and that’s really high on Wilson’s priority list. Of course it means the deal has to be done before he kicks… otherwise the team is fair game. As far as the “Ralph” as a venue… I say it reincarnates into something else when they build a new complex on the Buffalo waterfront. (Hey, we’re dreaming here anyway.)

You’ve got the grey part right… usually between October and May. Smog… I think you might be thinking of NYC. :)

Smog… I think you might be thinking of NYC.

Nah, I just assumed it just kind of spread out over the whole state and outlying areas
