Matt Leinart leads the battle of the bottom
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Matt Leinart will take the win
It just gets tougher and tougher to lose.
Lose? Yeah, lose. If you can’t figure out what this is about, then you have not been a lifetime Detroit Lions fan. The real battle is for the worst record, which gets you the first pick in the draft.
As the starting quarterback of the Cardinals, Matt Leinart had a chance to distance his team from the Detroit Lions today, but he failed. Matt and the Cardinals beat the Detroit Lions 17 - 10. Matt threw for 233 yards and a touchdown in a game defined by a lack of action more than anything.
Oh yeah, Matt’s first victory could not… have come at a worse time. To double the problem he may have saved Denny Green’s job. In the bizarro world of going for the first draft pick, having your coach fired is a great thing.
Confused? Once again, you probably are not a lifetime Lions fan. See if your coach gets fired, you have two things to look forward to, most likely a high draft pick, and a new coach. They both come wrapped in hope for a better future with a dash of ‘we will get it right this time’. Of course, we don’t, but that is another story.
So at 2 victories we have Detroit, Arizona, and Oakland. Tampa Bay, sadly, won today as did Tennessee to put them at 3 wins. Houston and Cleveland managed to pull out narrow losses to remain at 3 victories. Washington was most impressive managing to lose to Tampa Bay to stay at 3 victories and in the race for number 1 (draft pick).
Shout Outs A big Shout Out to RonB who patiently explained the theory of losing to win.
The Lions are not messing around here. Shaun Cody came back from a toe injury at defensive tackle and promptly left with a reinjured toe, apparently not aware of the No Shauns Rule. Shaun Rogers is still out on drug suspension.
Kevin left with ankle injury
Kevin Jones left to get x-rays on his ankle and never returned. There was no report, but he never returned, thus bolstering their hopes for more losses. (Squibster full disclosure - Kevin Jones must come back and score touchdowns. He is on my Fantasy Football team)
So winning is losing and losing is winning and there is hope for even the worst teams.
