McNair and the Ravens
It was an up and down weekend for your writer. On the upside there was time with my beautiful wife and her fun loving sister and all the family that goes with that sort of thing. There were lakes (thanks Dave), water parks, tubing, slides, bon fires, and my good friend Johnny Walker Black.
On the down side, your total sports loving writer watched two of his favorite athletes leave two of his favorite teams. Pay attention, because this does lead to some football talk. That is what we are here for anyway.
Stevie Yzerman retired after 22 years with the Red Wings hockey team in Detroit. Slam Sports tells us that he was the 6th leading scorer of all time with 1,755 points. He played for 22 years and won 3 Stanley Cups. Most importantly, he was a leader and all round great guy. He was always humble and just the kind of guy you want leading your team. Steve is 41.

Ben Wallace left the Detroit Pistons for the Chicago Bulls. MSNBC reported that he took the money and probably an increased emphasis on defense. He had won Defensive Player of the Year 4 times. He was the defensive glue that made the Pistons great. Ben is 32.

This got me thinking as only sports can do to me. There are some deals out there in NFL Land where players switched teams and now those teams think they really got it going on. Let’s take a look at one.

Steve McNair went from Tennessee to the Baltimore Ravens as reported by ESPN. He is 33.
Baltimore wanted McNair for a long time. They had 9 victories last year and McNair would be replacing Kyle Boller. That’s right Kyle Who. McNair will be running Fassel’s version of the West Coast Offense, which makes it the East Coast West Coast Offense.
Steve will be throwing to Derrick Mason. Mason one time dominated for the Michigan State Spartans. Somehow the downtrodden Spartans keep coming up with great pro receivers. Baltimore has to be excited. They just went from average to a team to contend with.
As for Tennessee, they will have young Vince Young. He is exciting and they will have to get him ready. Of course, he is a rookie and will take some seasoning.
Fan Recoginition Here is a shout out to Randy, Kevin, and Dave at the OFM Help Desk. They work hard and read squibkick.com to relax.

Yes Mcnair will help the Ravens…But the real help will come from Mike Anderson…He is old…But he is a tough ex Marine. Anything is better than the bumb Jamal Lewis….

It is my guess that Baltimore is the home state team for you Aaron, but Dick, how can you not be a Lions Fan? Has 49 years of losing got to you?
