This must be one of the crazy days. Somehow or other Ricky Williams has played in the CFL in Canada while still remaining a member of the Miami Dolphins. You have to believe that this guy is an amazing runner, because the Dolphins owner, Wayne Huizenga, is a no nonsense guy and we all know that the Coach, Nick ‘The Terrible’ Saban, is a no nonsense guy. Just for funnzies, let’s throw in a 4th substance abuse violation.
Wait a minute, 4 violations of the league substance abuse policy and Ricky will still be invited back next year? This is not your father’s NFL.
Ricky Williams has always been a fantastic athlete.
His football history began in 1992 at San Diego’s Patrick Henry High School, where Williams also juggled baseball, track and wrestling. An all-state outfielder, he was drafted by Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies in 1995 and bid farewell to football after inking a multi-year contract that included a $70,000 US signing bonus. source

Ricky Williams became an outstanding back in the NFL, in spite of his fondness for the smoke and it is not the fondness for the smoke that bothers your always ready to have a good time author. It is the fact that someone is paying him to lay off the green bud for a couple of years and he gets to make millions of dollars doing it. He also gets to be famous and play football at the same time. What did he not understand about all this? It is not like he was going to lose his job setting pins at the bowling alley.
Still, Ricky was a confused man. So, at the age of 27 and still under contract, he retired.
“At that point in my life, I had no idea what I was doing,” Williams told the Toronto Sun recently. “I was a good football player, I had all this money and all these things, but I had no mission. I had no drive, I had no purpose in life.” source
He now owes the Dolphins 8.6 million for that little stunt. Let us hope he finds whatever peace of mind he seeks. Ricky is not a bad guy for walking away from the opportunity that we think would be irresistable.
