Mike Shula to change brains with Nick Saban and coach the Dolphins?
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Mike Shula after receiving Nick Saban’s Brain
![]()
This is so bizarre that it had to be mentioned. The Dolphins are interviewing Mike Shula for the head coaching position.
The ink has yet to dry on the Nick Saban from Miami to Alabama contract and here we have the potential for a Mike Shula from Alabama to Miami contract.
Ok, we all know Mike’s dad was the Legendary Don Shula, but come on.
All Don did was… win a couple of Super Bowls, have an undefeated season, and go into the Hall of Fame. Gotta be tough to live in that shadow, heh?
Don’t know how many times Don Shula was on the TV with the Dolphins standing quietly with his arms folded as big Larry Csonka would pile through the line for 4 more yards.
Bob Griese, (Brian Griese’s dad to you youngsters), was the quarterback and all he ever did was win. He did not care how it got done, just get it done. He would hand off to big Larry, speedy Mercury Morris, or all purpose runner Jim Kiick.
NFL Football Larry Csonka/ Jim Kiick factoid Larry and Jim were known as “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”. They shocked the NFL football world to sign with the World Football League in 1974.
With movie star looks and a stable of star players, Don Shula went on to be the winningest coach in Pro Football.
Don started coaching the Dolphins at the tender age of 33. (Take that Eric Mangini!) He even made a brief appearance as a Lions assistant coach before that. Just think, Don was one time a Lion! (We Lion’s fans will cling to any hope on any topic)
Mike needs to win
Now Mike may share the same last name, and he may share the movie star looks, but he does not share Don’s winning record as a coach. When you are at Alabama for 4 years and you barely win more than you lose, well, it may be time to pack your suitcase before you get run out of town.
My good friend RonB pointed out that when you work for Alabama, you work for a select group of rich alumni. You please them or it is time to go!
Alabama can be tough. Mike got run out and he used to be their star quarterback.
But how strange would it be for Mike to get run out of town and get a plum job like the Dolphins in the NFL?
Nick still in denial
By the way, Nick Saban is still denying that Alabama has offered him the job. :)
NFL Football Fan Question Did all this seem like business as usual to you?
