NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

This week’s Monday Night Football game features the Tennessee Titans traveling to Denver to face off against the Broncos. The Titans, who are 6-3 on the season, are looking to keep pace with the Indianapolis Colts (8-2) and Jacksonville Jaguars (7-3) in the AFC South.

Jay Cutler

The Broncos with a win can enter a tie with the San Diego Chargers at 5-5, after the Chargers lost to the Jaguars on Sunday. Denver has battled injuries and inconsistent play all season, but they are very much alive for a playoff berth.

The marquee matchup in this game will be second-year quarterback Vince Young of the Titans against second-year quarterback Jay Cutler of the Broncos. Interestingly enough, both quarterbacks are mired in a sophomore slump. After each quarterback posted very good rookie seasons, each has struggled in their second year in the league.

Vince Young

Young on the season has four touchdowns to go with ten interceptions. Last year, he had 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Young also isn’t running as well as he did last year. This season, he has only two touchdowns and is averaging 3.9 yards per rush. Last season, Young had seven touchdowns and averaged 6.7 yards per rush.

Cutler has nine touchdowns and nine interceptions this season. Last year, Cutler had nine touchdowns and only four interceptions. The good news for Cutler is he has been playing better as of late, totaling five touchdowns and three interceptions over the last four weeks.

To be fair to both young quarterbacks, they have each battled injuries this season. Cutler missed almost all of the Week 9 game against the Lions with a bruised leg. Young was forced to miss Week 7 against the Texans completely with a strained muscle in his leg.

It’s safe to say that the winner of this Monday night duel will be the team whose second-year quarterback plays better. Keep an eye on Young and Cutler because as they go, their team will go.
