Moss, Owens, but no Rice - Oh, Fantasy Football hurts
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Jerry says - 3 rings baby, 3 rings, and did it the right way!
That could be all your intrepid author has to say about football.
Now repeat after me, Jerry Rice.
That’s right, wide receiver and Jerry Rice. They pretty much mean the same thing.
Of the top ten Fantasy Football seasons of all time, 6 of them belong to Jerry Rice.
Rice had the greatest fantasy football season among wide receivers in 1995, when he finished with 285 points on an NFL record 1,848 yards and 16 total touchdowns. In 1986, he posted 1,570 yards and a combined 16 touchdowns for a total of 260 points, which ranked third on our list. Rice’s 253 points in 1989 and 1993 are tied with Herman Moore for the fifth most, his record 22 touchdowns and 251 points in 1987 ranked tied with Mark Clayton for eighth, and his 249 points in 1994 were the tenth-best total. source
Do we even have to remind ourselves of how great Jerry Rice was in the NFL?
Rice also finished his illustrious career as the NFL’s all-time leader in receptions (1,549), scrimmage yards (23,540), receiving yards (22,895) and touchdowns (207) and was without question the greatest wide receiver to ever grace a pro football field.
If we forget about Rice for a minute and look at the top ten Fantasy Football receivers excluding Jerry Rice some interesting things pop up on the list.
Randy Moss
First off Randy Moss is number 1. He had 267 points in 2003. (Squibster full disclosure - Moss was on my Fantasy Football team until he proved totally worthless and was let go)
Moss has a tendency to take plays off, especially when the ball is not being thrown to him. This really irritates fans and coaches alike. When he is on, he is great, but when he is not involved it tends to rub off on the whole team.
NFL Football Randy Moss factoid - Not only has Moss been to 5 Pro Bowls, he is also a fabulous athlete.
At Dupont High School, consolidated in 1999 into Riverside High School in Belle, West Virginia, he lead his school to the state AAA football title (West Virginia’s highest class), starred in basketball alongside friend and current Miami Heat point guard Jason Williams, and also won the state title in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. source
Last year Moss was so disenchanted with the Raiders that he started taking every play off. Your intrepid author had to cut him from his Fantasy Football team. Why the Raiders did not get rid of this guy may point to the reason why they stink to begin with.
Still Randy Moss was a top Fantasy Football player and may be one again.
Terrell Owens
TO clocked in with 239 points in 2001. He is also a guy you would want to clock once in a while yourself. Owens if full of himself and seems to care only about a guy called Terrell.
Is TO talented? Are you kidding me? He oozes with talent. Watch a few replays of TO and it often looks like the cornerbacks are standing still as he runs around them, past them, or just through them.
Still he often disrespects the opposing team, his own team, his coach, and any and all fans. Teams seem to pick him up to rent a possible title. You can’t keep him long or the locker room cancer will grow.
Still Terrell Owens was a top Fantasy Football player and may be one again.
Oh, the pain
That is where Fantasy Football hurts. You often have to take the selfish player, the non-team player, the player you don’t really care for, because they pile up the stats.
Where Jerry Rice made the NFL better, Randy Moss and Terrell Owens serve to disrupt the game. Oh, Fantasy Football hurts!
NFL Football Fan Question Will you be picking TO or Randy Moss in your draft?
As always, any NFL Football related comments are welcome.

No… I purposely avoided TO and Moss in last year’s fantasy league. I see no reason to do otherwise this year.

briefly had Moss and wanted TO when he was released but someone snatched him while my blog was being written.
So you run a clean fantasy team? don’t want to upset the fantasy team chemistry?
