NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

MVP Peyton Manning wins the Super Bowl and the legend grows

The legacy of Peyton Manning is not finished, but the story took a huge leap.

With the Super Bowl ring and MVP trophy, Peyton can now be favorably compared with other quarterbacks that have won the Super Bowl.

One of the commercials showed fans being down about the season ending, the last fan they showed was Brett Favre.

We all know Brett is coming back, but the Brett Favre legend is already secured. Brett has his records, playing streak, MVP reputation, and, most importantly his Super Bowl ring.

Peyton needed to add the ring to his collection.

Final Score Colts 29 - Bears 17.

It was not your typical Super Bowl. After opening with a 92 yard touchdown return by Devin Hester, the game settled down into a game of takeaway.

The game of takeaway is usually won by the Bears, but not this time. No, this time the game was won by the other team.

The other team had this guy named Peyton Manning making play after play in the rain.

Finally in the second half, it was fumbles and interceptions that finished off the Bears.

Time to root for Peyton

As the game moved into the late 3rd quarter and Indianapolis was dominating the time on the clock, your intrepid author found himself rooting for Peyton Manning.

It was surprising in a way, because the Squibster had picked Indy to win, but, because the Bears are in my Lions division, your gallivanting author was rooting for the Bears for the first 2 and one half quarters.

How the Colts won

Really the game was Peyton Manning doing his thing at the line, with all his motions and pointing, combined with the play of Indy’s two backs, Joseph Addai and Dominic Rhodes.

Joseph Addai had 77 yards rushing and caught 10 passes for 66 yards. Addai seemingly caught or ran the ball to keep almost every drive alive.

Dominic Rhodes went over 100 yards rushing and had a touchdown. Rhodes seemed to get stronger as the game wore on and he ran like a bull.

But still it was the Peyton Manning show with 25 for 38 for 247 yards and 1 touchdown. Peyton showed complete command of the field, in spite of Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, and the rest of the Bears.

In defense of the Bears

Not that Briggs and Urlacher weren’t busy. They had 23 tackles between them.

At the start of the 4th quarter, the Colts had run 66 plays to Chicago’s 28. Yeah, if you are barely getting over 9 plays per quarter, you are in trouble!

Of course, your intrepid author would be remiss if he did not mention the fine job of the fast moving Colts defense led by Bob Sanders. The speedy Colts stopped just about every Chicago drive.

Nothing seemed to work for Chicago.

Rex and his struggles

The great day that Peyton had was further underscored by the lousy day the Rex Grossman had.

Although it does not sound real bad, 20 of 28 for 165 yards and 1 TD (The touchdown by a Michigan State University Grad Mushin Muhammad).

You never really got the feeling that Rex was in control of the game. Rex had constant problems holding on to the football and threw two crucial interceptions in the 4th quarter.

The first interception at the start of the 4th quarter was returned for a touchdown, by Kelvin Hayden, of 56 yards.

Rex and the Bears never really recovered from that touchdown interception.

Peyton takes over

It was Peyton Manning time and he shined even while it rained. Peyton has the Super Bowl ring, the MVP Cadillac, and is at the peak of his game.

The legend of Peyton Manning continues to grow!

NFL Football Fan Question Peyton has one ring. Does he need another to be considered in the running for all time greatest quarterback?

As always, any NFL Football related comments are welcome.

I don’t think Payton needs another ring. This win relieves him of a huge burden and should be enough to silence whatever critics remain. Congrats to him, Tony Dungy, and the entire organization on a fine ending to a fine season.

Not to mention that would get in the way of your Chargers taking it all next year. :)

I don’t think Peyton needs ANY rings to validate what type of quarterback he is. Is Dan Marino less of an all-time great b/c he never won a Super Bowl? What about Jim Kelly? Fran Tarkenton?

I posted a cartoon about Peyton Manning for anyone who’s interested. It’s on my blog, http://tornoe.b....

    Rob,
will certainly catch some flak for it, but yes the Super Bowl Victory does make a difference. In the fans eyes, you do not want to be that quarterback that could not win the big one.
