NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

New England Patriots just one of the league surprises

by James on October 26th, 2006

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Time to take a peak at the standings and see what is going on.

New England getting it done

New England Patriots ticketsNew England is once again in the hunt, despite losing both of their starting receivers from last year. They have a tough matchup with the Vikings this Sunday and then a showdown battle with Indy the week after. It looks like the AFC East belongs to them.

The AFC North looks like a two horse race with Baltimore doing it with defense and Cincinnati doing it with offense. Still too early to… count Pittsburgh out of it, yet.

Indy is running away with the AFC South, but keep an eye on Jacksonville with their weak schedule.

Denver and San Diego are bulldozing through the AFC West. Both doing it with strong defense. Kansas City will get Trent Green back in November, but with a tough schedule, it may be too late.

The Giants, Eagles, and Cowboys are duking it out in one of the toughest divisions, the NFC East. The Skins look out of it. The Cowboys are rolling the dice with Romo. The Giants and Eagles are living on offense.

The Bears are the toast of the NFC North, with the surprising Vikings hanging in with tenacious defense. The Vikings allow very few passing touchdowns.

In maybe the hardest division to call the NFC South, the Surprising Saints (not the ain’ts anymore), the Falcons, and Panthers all have a shot at taking the division. The Saints are for real with Deuce, Reggie, and Drew Brees. Somehow the Falcons get it done with the enigmatic Michael Vick and the equally enigmatic Warrick Dunn. The Panthers, everyone’s playoff darlings have quietly got back in the race.

Finally in the NFC West, St. Louis and Seattle are airborne enough to be confused with airports and Bulger to Holt and Hasslebeck to Jackson, Engram, Branch etc, is getting the job done. Hassleback has a sprained ankle right now, but look out, because Shaun Alexander is due back next week.

9 opinions for New England Patriots just one of the league surprises

As long as New England has Tom Brady any success they have can’t be too much of a surprise. Their running game is back this year and that means he doesn’t have to do it all—and he can get back to doing what he does best–making plays when it counts.

Believe me, here in the state of Michigan, we knew Tom Brady would be good. He carved up my Michigan State Spartans. What we did not know was that he would be great. Don’t tell my University of Michigan fans about saying that.

Lawrence Maroney is a stud, too.

There is no way people can be suprised about the Patriots being so good. Tom Brady is so smart with the ball he does not need any good receivers. With the way Maroney is running that helps him even more. I think this Patriots team could go very deep into the Playoffs.

Big, you are right, no surprise here. Think a lot of people just thought without the starting wideouts that New England would struggle a little. Unless you are a big ten fan, did you really know about Maroney?

My Sparty’s prepare to do battle with your Gophers. We will use our secret weapon the out going lame duck coach John L. Smith. Did you know the Spartys tried to hire Glen Mason at one point?

No, I did not, but if they took him from us I really wouldn’t care. He isn’t the best coach in the world.

What about Lou Holtz? Wasn’t he Minny’s coach at one time? Didn’t he have an escape clause to leave for the golden domers?
Bring it up because State is looking at a couple of UMers, Ron English and Jim Harbaugh.
