NFL Draft Outlook: Vince Young
In my opinion, the greatest talent in the draft this year is Longhorn Quarterback Vince Young. Some experts give the top ranking to USC cornerstones Reggie Bush or Matt Leinart, but I gave Vince Young top billing back when Alabama was still running in the cool #3 slot in the BCS poll.
Lately, I’ve been looking at some of the expert opinions of this years draft and predicting where Vince Young will be picked is about as dodgy as trying to hunt whitetail at night.
For instance, Fox Sports’ April 17 draft prediction has Young being picked by the Titans as the number 3 overall pick. I would question this expectation. Two months ago, I would have concurred arguing that Young has a personal friendship with Titans QB Steve McNair and McNair has even been mentoring young Young (excuse the pun). With McNair’s future in Tennessee up in the air, I would predict Tennessee passing
th ball off to Billy Volek who has quite the good history with the team as an oft’ used backup.
Other opinions out there:
- Clark Judge predicts Young will be picked #7 by the Oakland Raiders.
- Pete Prisco thinks Young will make it to the Raven’s #13 pick! Doubt that, but I’d welcome it.
- The ESPN SportsNation Poll expects Young to be picked #4 by the Jets.
My prediction? Warm weather Longhorn goes to icy cold Buffalo and learns how to play NFL-style ball under Kelly Holcomb.

Hm. You were doing well until you predicted Buffalo would take him. J.P. Losman has a lot of potential, and he’s only played a total of about 10 games. Not enough to make his poor play unforgiveable.
If the Titans take him, it won’t be for the sake of McNair…
As for the Ravens taking him, I’ve heard a few rumours that Favre could end up getting traded to them. If that were to happen I highly doubt they’d take Young, but if that’s not happening then Young’s a possibility, though I don’t know if he’ll fall far enough for them to grab him. They pick at number 13, and Young could easily go in the top 8.
The first three picks are looking like they’re going to be Bush, Ferguson, Leinart
