NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

NFL Fantasy Football - Gil Brandt breaks it down

by James on October 13th, 2006

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Gil Brandt Analyst & Legend

Gil BrandtGil Brandt writes a must read Fantasy Football column for NFL.com called NFL Fantasy. He is one of the most read NFL Football analysts in the reporting world today.

This is an excerpt from the bottom of the column in the Did You Know section.

1. The four teams that took a running back in Round 1 of the 2006 NFL Draft are 16-4, and three of those teams are leading their division.

New Orleans (Bush) 4-1
New England (Maroney) 4-1
Carolina (Williams) 3-2
Indianapolis (Addai) 5-0 source

Gil Brandt is an excellent analyst and an excellent people person. He was the primary architect of the early Dallas Cowboys, before Jerry Jones took over. Gil is widely quoted.

“Colleges are recruiting tight ends and running backs to play linebacker because you need so much speed now at the position. There are some good ones that will soon be coming out of college. There are signs that it’s coming around, but right now there’s no question that the true linebacker, like Butkus and Nitschke, are almost extinct.”
Gil Brandt quotes source

Upon reading that quote, it made your intrepid author long for the days of the big tough mean middle linebacker. It still always stuns me when some small speedy guy can be the middle linebacker, but that is today’s passing oriented style of football.

NFL Football Fan Question Can your thirst for breaking down the NFL be satisfied? Does the quote on the running backs mean that rushing still rules?

As always, any NFL related comments are welcome.
