NFL Football Revealed on Squib Kick

NFL Football - Atlanta Falcons - Ready to Stop the Run

by James on August 16th, 2006

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

The Atlanta Falcons knew it. They just knew it. It was the run. The run was killing them. Towards the end of the season, my grandma took a handoff, grabbed her walker, and limped for 5 yards, and a crucial first down, against the Falcons defense. It was that bad.

The real problem is that my grandma is not that fast or that strong. Something had to be done. Just to point fingers would not be enough.

Oh, there was hope, because injured middle linebacker Edgerton Hartwell was coming back from an injured Achilles. Even though that is a tough injury to come back from, Hartwell is tough and he is tough against the run.

John AbrahamAtlanta also picked up veteran Jets DE John Abraham. Here is a guy that can create havoc. He can really get the rush on the quarterback. A true Pro Bowler. A three time true Pro Bowler.

NFL Football John Abraham factoid John was the third linebacker taken in the 2000 NFL Football draft behind LaVarr Arrington and Brian Urlacher. Pretty good draft for linebackers.

They already had a Pro Bowler in Rod Coleman on the inside. Another guy that can rush the quarterback and has great speed to close on the run. Add in Patrick Kerney at the other end and they are going to put immense pressure on the quarterback.

But the run, it still has to be stopped. Atlanta knew it and picked up Lawer Milloy and Chris Crocker to play safety. These two may not be the best pass defenders, but man, can they stop the run. Besides with the 3 top pass rushers up front, it will make pass coverage a little easier.

Keith Brookings, another run stuffer, will return at the OLB for his 10th season. His aggressiveness will be counted on.

Atlanta knew it. It was the run and something had to be done. Maybe, just maybe, they have done it.

NFL Football Fan Question Could Atlanta actually be good against the run?
