Can Chad Pennington really be all the rage? Pennington had a great first week with 319 yards, 2 TDs, and no interceptions. More importantly his rotator cuff (shoulder) still functioned after performing at a high level. He threw 33 passes in the game.
Jets Fans are just plain scared
Maybe this is a good time to stop and take stock of the New York Jets situation. The star running back Curtis Martin had his contract reduced, because he may not play at all this year or may not ever play again.

Chad Pennington is coming off his second rotator cuff surgery in a row. This affects his throwing and his emotions. Think about it, will he even have the ability to throw as hard.
D’Brickashaw Ferguson is starting at left tackle. Now Ferguson will most likely become a great tackle, right now he is nothing but a rookie.
The Jets have the youngest active head coach in the NFL in Eric Mangini. Although, Eric has a great pedigree working under Bill Belichick, he is still young and inexperienced as a head coach.
Finally the Jets are facing Division Rival New England. The Patriots have won the last 6 meetings. Sure, they are missing Deion Branch and a few Patriot players have hang nails and stubbed toes, but this is still Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots.
Jets Fans feeling queasy
But, hey, this is nothing but an average week for the New York Jets fans. How would you like to be in a division looking up at not only the New England Patriots, but the Miami Dolphins as well? Your star runner is out, maybe forever. Your quarterback is trying to come back from two shoulder surgeries. Your offensive line is young. Your head coach is still a kid in coaching circles. Then to top it off, you are facing New England, Buffalo, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, and Miami all in a row! These are not all home games either.
So there you have it, at age 30 with 7 years in the league, Chad Pennington, graduate of Marshall in the Mid American Conference, has to fearlessly lead his undermanned team against the giants of the NFL.
